It looks like you tried to turn the gold too soon. Try waiting longer. On some projects I wait the next day. use a clean piece of velvet .and you don't need a lot of pressure.

You could call Gemini. Most likely they will recommend standoff pads. The post goes through the pads and they could be adjusted for different heights. Install as normal then with a straight edge on the letters adjust the pads.

If you're not a licensed and insured installer it would probably be better to sub that out. Mark it up and supervise for the day.
