  1. Reprint for free?

I decided to reprint it at my expense and get over it. He is a family friend of my parents, although they don't really talk much anymore because his wife doesn't like our political point of view. And yes, he only uses me for small signage and things that other shops probably won't do. visual800...
  2. Reprint for free?

Darn it. This makes me mad. Got a personal FB message last week from a customer/fb friend saying he wanted some signs - at 8pm. Sent me a picture with an article link. I glanced at the photo. "Danger Powerlines Overhead" with a little pic of power lines and lightening bolts and said he wanted...
  3. Heat Gun Hip/Belt Holster

This is exactly what I do. And sometimes I enjoy burning holes in my sweatshirts, burnt fabric has a nice smell as well!
  4. BIPOC

I can't keep track of all of these terms. I don't get what the big deal is with gay people...didn't all that stigma disappear after the AIDS thing in the 80's? Besides a few florists and bakers, do most people give a rats a$$ these days? Kinda odd if you don't have a gay friend or family member...
  5. Applying Window Cling To 18oz Banner

Are you trying to make a banner stick to the window by applying a window cling to the banner? This is not going to work. If they want to hang a banner in the window then get some of those little suction cups to hang from the grommets. Otherwise, make/order a window cling or print and cut vinyl.
  6. Illustrator vs. Gimp

I just checked out the Affinity website. Is that correct it's only $49.99? Does it do the same thing as say, Corel?
  7. Illustrator vs. Gimp

Funny, when I graduated in 1993 and got my first design job at a print shop (business cards, letterhead, flyers, etc), they used (I can't remember) it was a code system. <FT>arial<LS>12 -- whatever that is. Of course I knew how to use it and I did, but Illustrator was the new thing and that's...
  8. Need Help Police car graphics

Yes, one of my local communities does not use reflective. He said something about then people can see them coming or hiding out on the side of the road? And he didn't want that. The first shop they had do the graphics used printed and it peeled off and faded badly, they applied them 2x on 2...
  9. Need Help Police car graphics

Well, first off, is everyone sure it's reflective? The police cars I do for a local community are not reflective. I used 3M 7725 and they have held up excellent. I'm not sure if the installation itself has you ruffled, getting the stripes straight or figuring out the vinyl. It is possible to...
  10. Idea for a new thread......................................................................

In 1980 I was 7, I began my career with crayons.
  11. 30 second radio ad?

The cost was only $200 and yes, I like the idea of doing more of a cheer to the kids than anything! Awesome idea Gino! And yes, nobody really listens to all the lingo, it's more of a status symbol type thing and since my sons on the team, seems pretty damn cheap of me if I don't do it! LOL
  12. 30 second radio ad?

I bought a 30 second spot for the high school football games. Will run 2x per game all season. I don't know where to start...if I use my own voice, has anyone had luck uploading to Fiverr for editing? The school will do the voice over but thought maybe I could spend a couple bucks and make it...
  13. To print or not to print

I always choose cut vinyl over printed. I have 2 vans I lettered with black and red back in 2007 and the vans are rusty but the lettering still looks pretty darn good (at least from the distance I saw them).
  14. Hello from Atlanta!

    Welcome from Wisconsin! :welcome:
  15. Creating Layers in Corel

It's funny you mention the fact that you lock your layers. I do quite a bit of locking objects in LXI. Based on this thread, I'm to start playing around with layers. I can think of a few jobs off hand in which the "selecting and deselecting and locking" of certain objects might be made easier if...
  16. Just In How to Calculate Your Hourly Shop Rate

I think especially for a one man show like myself it's important to know. There are only so many hours I can and WANT to work. I have to think carefully the best use of those hours to make sure I'm making my hourly rate, and then some just for fun. Hiring a part timer to do menial tasks like...
  17. Creating Layers in Corel

These are very informative answers, thank you! I met with him last night and he pulled it up in photoshop. There were just a few things that were wonky that he could have easily fixed. For the sake of getting the project done he just wrote the changes on paper and I just finished up the final...
  18. Just In How to Calculate Your Hourly Shop Rate

I think it makes sense to know what your shop rate is. The shop rate keeps the lights on, bills paid, etc. However, do you want to spend 2 hours at $100 per hour working on vectoring clipart or do you want to send it out for $15, and letter a vehicle where you're likely to make more than that...
  19. Need Help Wholesaler

Lots of them. Firesprint is on this forum, Signs365, Zoo Printing, the guy who posted above. Firesprint and Signs 365 have easy to use websites.
  20. Creating Layers in Corel

So, I volunteered to make a flyer for this group I'm in. We are handing it out all over town, etc. It was supposed to be a quick project but there are 2 other people involved who are "designers' but they use Photoshop, possibly Illustrator, but they want to edit this flyer in Photoshop. He wants...
