  1. Raster Image countour cut

If you did the cut line properly, when you bring the file into versaworks there should be a red flashing "marching ants" line when you click the settings button, if you don't see that, something went wrong with the cut line (wrong thickness, not a spot colour etc.) hope this helps
  2. 6mm Brushed Aluminum Composite

Alupanel brand has a 6mm brushed aluminum/mill finish sheet available, it is available from Grimco up here in Canada, not sure about local suppliers While it is not waranteed for outdoor use, we use it quite a bit with no issues, the other brushed finishes will fade in no time outdoors, but the...
  3. Looking for a laminator roller

I'm looking for a good condition roller from a laminator, between 54" - 60" wide, I only need the roller and the bearings. I want to take a stab at building a flatbed laminator, and sourcing the roller is proving to be the most difficult part of the whole build. if you have one to sell from an...
  4. roland down and we have a large order

While i'm sure it is "possible" to have one company print the decals and another contour cut them, I can see why no one wants to do it, put yourselves in their shoes, if for some reason the cut doesn't line up perfectly, who do you think you are going to call and blame? I assume what happened...
  5. Temporary Exterior Sign

I agree, explain to them that even a cheap sign has to be installed properly, with a bucket truck etc. that is going to cost more than they want to spend most likley. We get people come in the shop looking for "gag signs" for a buddy's birthday or retirement, they think since it's not a "real"...
  6. Temporary Exterior Sign

I second the budget issues, do you know what they are going to be comfortable spending on this before you waste your time researching options? If they only want to spend a few hundred dollars (which I imagine they do) explain to them that for that price a banner is the best they are going to...
  7. Material Failure or Damaged by customer?

i've never liked the idea of "replacing for cost" because now they know your cost, some of our products have a very healthy profit margin in them (as they should) and I wouldn't want my client to know the product i charged him $200 for actually cost $40 to make, i would imagine the next order...
  8. Cleaning finished prints

When a salesman tell you there is "no need to" do something, it means it's not needed for the machine to run. we were told there is no need to laminate prints off our roland, which is technically true, but we still laminate 95% of what we print. Call back and ask for a quote on a laminator...
  9. Interior Menu Boards, How do I Mount them?

I would use a lockable snap frame
  10. Material Failure or Damaged by customer?

I think he's full of it, vinyl doesn't just tear like that, he had to have dragged something against it. however, how you approach this is up to you, is he worth the cost of a few sq/ft of perf & lam to keep happy?
  11. bidding on Damn HUD job!

these companies aren't owned by the same people I don't believe. However the job i was referring to earlier was to supply & install 200 various parking signs around a new school, these are reflective 0.062" thick aluminum signs (stop, no parking, one way etc.) and a 12' galv. U-Chanel post...
  12. bidding on Damn HUD job!

I'm not sure what HUD is, but you just described our experience with most architects in general. We routinely get 700-800 page bid documents and told, give them a price by the end of the week, the signs are such a tiny part of the overall project that they don't make it into the table of...
  13. Customers are so ignorant...

Lol, we don't get as many of these requests as we used to, but what you say is very true! I would have told him if he paid my rent, payroll, leases, insurance and other overhead I will run him as many parts as he wants for free! if any of these inventions work out, the parts would be mass...
  14. Customers are so ignorant...

the problem is that this woman was never a customer to begin with, customers buy products or services, she had no interest in buying either she just wanted someone to justify her cheapness, so she could justify why her signs look like crap. these types of people will never become profitable...
  15. ACM Panel on Brick....

oddly enough, I just got an email from a supplier saying they now carry this adhesive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XxbRV6eVcQ has anyone used this before? they are gluing a 35 kg concrete block onto drywall with no other fasteners, and it looks like it stayed there!
  16. Gemini does it again!

We order a ton of plaques from Gemini and they are always a pleasure to deal with, this last job was no exception. We just got in 12 pcs 9"x9" etched stainless steel plaques for some outdoor art pieces and they are perfect! Gemini is pretty much the only company we outsource to that I have...
  17. ACM Panel on Brick....

Insist on using tapcon screws into the mortar joint, if they remove the signs and want to patch the holes, a tube of this will do the trick http://www.homedepot.com/p/Sikaflex-10-1-fl-oz-Mortar-Fix-187784/202529068
  18. ACM Panel on Brick....

what kind of brick? is it painted? Some clients don't like screws, but I usually explain that it's a lot easier to fix 2 small holes than to scrape off 10 year old silicone/liquid nails from brick. if they don't go for it I will generally walk away, i don't trust non mechanical fasteners...
  19. Hows my time?

While this is way better than I could ever hope to do, I gotta ask, is that the accepted way to wrap the door handles? the paint showing through around the handle sticks out like a sore thumb to me. as for the time, it sounds fine, there are some people on this board that would wrap that in...
  20. Comparison - Versaworks, Caldera, and Onyx

I literally just found out about the colour replacement function in versaworks a month ago when we had a tech out to replace our capping station. I used to think I couldn't print a nice tomato red or canary yellow on my Roland, but after he showed us that it was a game changer. We have one...
