I think that is called cellphone tethering. Supposedly it can be done with an iphone but is not currently legal through AT&T in the US http://www.apple.com/iphone/iphone-3gs/tethering.html It may be because they are trying to figure out how to charge for it or the current AT&T network is not...

You will waste too much time fixing nodes. The curves can be drawn with ovals. Overlap them to match and use the knockout tool to remove the unwanted parts I often get autotraced logos to fix and it is far easier to start from scratch.
