  1. DC3 plus issues

We own a Durachrome, it gets used only every once in a while after we got the Mimaki. "Pass lines" are probably near impossible to get rid totally rid of , especially in spot-color mode, due to the technology of laying down 4" passes and no overprint. CMY-mode has been better for us, as one...
  2. Eco Solvent inks In Mimiaki JV3

... and SS2 is almost eco anyway, as even eco-solvents need to be vented, they are also solvents, just as dangerous, but are marketed as safe... Go figure.
  3. price of ink going up 30%?

$110 or so + shipping, 6 months ago
  4. The Ultimate Guide to Fixing Banding!

I made a discovery... Heat causes the media to buckle, the print head "almost" touches the media, at regular intervals, and you get a lighter stripe every inch or so, no matter if it's 8 or 16 pass. I thought this was ink starvation, but can't be, as the printer will lay down plenty of ink to...
  5. mimaki jv3250spf

Hi. We have a JV3-160. Unless you NEED the white ink, forget it! It sucks. It clogs, and I think the cartridges only last around 2 months if you don't use them, and they are twice as expensive as regular SS2 ink. If you expect only a couple white jobs / month, you're better off saying no...
  6. Come meet me!!!

At least you should be able to pick up a cheap lease on new or slightly used equipment these days! I think the first things you need are at least a 160 cm solvent printer, a cutter, and a laminator with take-up rollers. This from someone who started a couple of years ago and took too long...
  7. 360 x 540 high speed 3 pass!!!!

Uni-directional is better quality, and almost as fast as bi-directional, since the head stops to wait for the media to advance, instead of returning while media advances. I don't have exact times, but way bigger difference to go from 16 pass to 8 pass.
  8. Too cheap for a take-up reel

This is what we do on our Epson 10600: We lay down 2-4 empty rolls on the floor perpendicular to the printer, and have a rack that we roll up the slack every half hour or so. No problem if the vinyl get to the rolls, as they keep 'em off the floor, can have a yard or 2 on them, folds nicely...
  9. when printer low on ink will not tell you the size?

Ours does the same thing. Have not figured a way to get rid of it, but other problems include no cleaning during "near end", so don't leave town... Best we have figured out, is to use a tape measure... It works pretty good, and is very reliable! (Make sure the printer has scanned the...
  10. Hello from Florida !!!!!!

Welcome from Norway. $80 / gal is DIRT CHEAP! I think that's about what we spend for a couple of 100cc Mimaki bottles of cleaner (comes out to $1500 or so / gal). We had cleaning cartridges laying around, 220cc for $50, so I cut them open and poured into cleaning solution bottles...
  11. Summa D60

Just look next to the knife if it has a little thing with a couple of wires that you can lift up. No thingie=no OPOS.
  12. Summa D60

Sorry to go off topic, but: We cut laminated prints all day with our old Summa T-140, but there are problems that are easily solved. We have found 2 things that help: Turn off the lights, also helps to put in a higher number in media calibration. Default is 30, we sometimes use 60. I think...
  13. The Ultimate Guide to Fixing Banding!

We have had; still have this type problem, for solid colors we sometimes turn off color control in the rip (FlexiSign). Then this "ink starvation" stops and it prints fine. So- I guess it has nothing to do with the printer, it must be a profile issue. I don't know this but; If the printer...
  14. JV3 Trouble

Even might work to just unplug (or turn off switch in the back) for a few seconds, then back on. This worked for us when having similar problems. If not, try 30 min's...
  15. Expired JV3 Inks???

To Eventsource- Happy to help. The procedure I described was not one I can take the credit for, as others passed it to me. It does not in any way alter anything in the printer, it gets reset back to how it came from the factory, minus the date, which now says 01012005 (thereabouts). I...
  16. new job

Talking about honesty: You say "I always get quotes from 3 other places"... Do you tell them you are a sign shop that needs help in giving a customer a price quote (being honest); or do you pretend you are a customer wanting a sign (stealing time from a fellow signmaker, and the worst kind...
  17. FlexiSign and OPOS problem

I think I'll bump this one. We have for the last year successfully been printing "stickers" using Flexisign to our JV3, just specifying something like 200 copies, OPOS, pulling the print from the printer, laminating, loading it into the Summa cutter, send the cut-job, and weeding. It's...
  18. printing problem

Hey Case, what I was drinking is all gone now. That's my excuse, and I reserve the right to use it... :bushmill::beer
  19. Mimaki JV3 refurbished print head?

Search this forum, a guy sells new ones @500 each...
  20. What is a refresh rate and what does it mean?

What Supergecko said... Refresh is during print. But, same question from me- I have never seen our printer cap and suck during a print, even though refresh rate is at 3...
