  1. Quiet CNC?

I second this. We have some type of a dual turbine vacuum hold down. The problem was the noise and heat on its exhaust side. We originally had it ducted into the shop with us, but we ended up rerouting it to a 4 " pvc pipe and put it through the wall. Note if you do this put rat wire on the...
  2. Cutting MDF

We use a MDF Lite for making molds for vacuum formed faces. All I can say is keep it climate controlled, it seems moisture is the biggy. We keep ours outside under an awning, because warpage isn't as big of a deal for what we use it for. When stacking sheets (we use 60"x97" 1/2" and 3/4") keep...
  3. Dropbox

Dittos. The designs I set up for the router come from our other shop. If something is missing, I just call them up, and few minutes later it's there.
  4. 2.5" external hard drives

suggestion for back up drives and retrieving info off of old hard drives is a HD dock. Usually run anywhere from $20-$80 and some even have built in media card readers. and their footprint is fairly small

  8. Wanting to build a thermoforming machines vacuum forming machines

We pan, emboss and paint our own faces ourselves. Granted our vacuum table and system is homemade but the oven is a different story. This thing pull some mega watts (ok maybe not that much), but the power company here regulates with its kw hour prices when we can pull faces. General rule of...
  9. Fluted Sign Post

Looks like a product we use to sell at 84 Lumber years ago, used for fluted columns and stuff. Can't seem to remember the names of all the companies, but Fypon was one. Stuff was sold to be used for deco for porches and decks.
  10. What smartphone apps can't you live without?

Running a bone stock Moto Backflip: AppBrain: for those of us with A**T&T they get the last say of apps that our phones see. This site shows all, and with their side loader, you can try the "evil" apps on your phone. Barcode Scanner: enough said CraigsNotifica (free)- put in your area, what...
  11. Up Date on OP . We WOULD miss you.

I am so sorry to hear this.... I'll miss the spirited conversation I have read from the shadows here. Prayers and well being to his family.
  12. Gerber Dimension 200

I loved this machine. When my previous employer called it quits, they auctioned everything. Our system minus the vacuum system went for $2800. Our vacuum system was just for dust/chip collection. This included our bits, controller box, vacuum hoses to hook to a vacuum system, a x64 AMD computer...
  13. Looking for help finding correct MDF board

I use 1/2" MDF light. when I have to replace out with new, i put it on the router table and "skin" both sides and cut to the size needed for my table. This is also the same material we use to make our molds for our vacuum formed faces. I think we get it from Horizon Forest products.
  14. Tablet pc to make presentations

I just picked up a used HP TC4400 tablet notebook off ebay for $205 shipped; they have have a quite a few left. They are off leases I guess, but have 12" touch screen (with the stylus), the screen turns and folds back down over top the keyboard. Duo core 2.0 ghz, 1 ghz ram, 60gig hd, wireless...
  15. Sign construction advice

Thank you for this thread! We have to do a similar layout using 1/4" dibond, with raised 1/4" dibond panels with the renters' business names on them. Is the MacTac sheets good for an outdoor application? I found a spec sheet on it but it does not specify...
  16. wow... seen this? is there more news yet?

A jet eh?.... I use to live around Wallops Island, VA, where they sent up experimental, sounding, and small payload rockets. Even though I have never seen an experimental or a sounding rocket go off, I have seen the Conastoga rocket go up from about 10 miles away (which had a failure and they...
  17. cutting sandblast material

I use to use Gerber Mask II, but we cut it using an Envision 375 tractor feed. When it cut it was like cutting thick reflective, down force and slow. Our other shop uses a similar product on and old Roland Camm plotter. With that said you really have to watch the tracking. The best results come...
  18. Things you should be thankful for but you are thankful anyway

Grrrr.... guess I'm thankful that someone else took a chance on me to work for them after the last place I worked for closed the doors. I hate this area, being away from friends that were as close as family, and making just enough money to not be able to afford my own place. But I really...
