you know, bruce
they don't just put the fans there as a decoration
the cooling air flow prevents some sort of (normally expensive) component failure
that sort of background noise has never bothered me much
also, check your soldering, recheck the driver transistors (they dont go bad often, but, they do go bad....)
CAREFULLY CHECK the transistors driving the black print head the collector of one of the complimentary pair should have 41 VDC (center pin of the transistor)
the collector of the other...
do a couple hour headsoak on the black
pull ink through (don't be afraid to throw a little ink away)
then try printing black again.
black has a lot of solids in the ink
years ago, we ended up doing a "smoke test" with one of the machines car mechanics used. this was the only way we found a VERY MINOR leak (a bad bushing) on a baffle on one of our dodge caravans
(i always liked coming up with the test to prove a weird problem's solution)
same principle, it...
i don't want to sound like a broken record, but, it is worth trying a 5%to 10% solution of acetone in the cleaning fluid (AT YOUR OWN RISK) followed by enough cleaning cycles to be sure the acetone has gone past the pumps into waste container. we have had very good luck with this DEPENDING ON...
already changed the manifold. it was cracked, but, both tests were with a good manifold
we always have them (we keep dx2, dx4 & dx7 manifolds)
i will see where the smoke comes out of.
I will use a can of "smoke test" we use to certify fire alarm systems. Bobby filled the manifold with cleaner & pinched hose on laptop but I am not sure.otherwise it's dial indicator time.

it is odd, it doesn't seem to be tilted.
there are 6 dx4 heads. black is in the b group
heads on both sides are seating
we had a pretty good head strike damage the black a while back. IT HIT A MEDIA CLAMP
i was still printing a perfectly acceptable high quality print.
the head strike...
i have been unable to get a good seal between black head & captop
we have done this lots of times for clients AND FOR MYSELF, but we have a substantial vacuum leak where the head would seal with captop
changed damper, captop (twice) substituted an old, defective printhead. yellow is still...
the two things the attorney will tell you:
(1) never ask a question unless you already know the answer
(2) never ask a question YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE ANSWER TO
a great gift item for signs 101 members would be if they flipped automatically like the license plate in the old james bond movies
then you could do any kind of crappy install you wanted
