I've had some confusion with the character map too, and the keystroke codes I've always seen require the alt key & several numbers, but I always used the top row of numbers, not the separate numeric keypad... and those character map keystroke codes never worked until someone explained to me that...

takes longer too... not the "best way" by any means. Break 'em up first, and you can still edit them, if you need to create outlines later, you can select all, create outlines to all... and they are all going to be grouped by text block already.

copy and paste... but what I usually do is drag a copy (holding alt key... and shift to retain alignment) ...then repeat for a third line. At this point each copy has 3 lines... now delete the 2 undesired lines from each group... or a variation, if too much copy, highlight and CUT the undesired...

I don't have a Mutoh, but I agree with your theory. wait until you need a service call anyway, then do it right before that service, so the tech can fix it (if it screws up) while he does whatever else you might need a service call for... that way it eventually gets done & you don't slip...
