  4. Newbie has a question

With you, Gino. Also, consider, MDO or plexiglass doesn't have a shelf life. Doesn't go bad like vinyl rolls can.

  7. Newbie has a question

Bob, are you in a competitive area? (I mean, Earth is a little vague.) Are there a lot of sign shops around?
  8. Newbie has a question

Fred's quite right. It's known as inventory. Everyone has it.
  9. Newbie has a question

"Also, if we are doing a sign that needs only part of the board, we still make sure the cost for the full sheet is covered." Stacy, I don't see how you can charge a customer for an entire sheet of material if his project only consumes one fourth of it. Think about this: A baker who buys...
  10. need some help

Googled Roland fj40. There's a link there for probably all the info you'll need. But it looks like it may be an aqueous ink jet printer. I think you might be looking at a printer more for the printing trade, sort of a "proofer". You'll need solvent jet, not ink jet, for outside graphics...
  11. Who am I?

Greetings from the Pacific Northwest! I also started out printing T-shirts, caps, jackets. Moved into signs.
  12. Fell booty-first into the biz.

Welcome from the Pacific Northwest! Lots of good advice here. BTW, I use the Roland SP-540 also.
  13. VersaWorks contour cutting problem

Possible things: Blade force set too high. Cutting speed too fast. Media shrunk due to cold temperature in room. Offset value is not at "0". Media is slipping under the friction rollers. Just a few guesses.
  14. new @ 50

First greetings from a former Ohioan. (grew up in North Central) Agree with everything Doug from Isign said. In my mind the business side of things is the toughest. But you can learn it, and hire some of it, if necessary. The other side of it comes more naturally for me. Crafting signs...
  15. Font Id please

Jill, Shovel, you guys are great. Gotta buy the font now, or a work-around. If it's a Mike Steven's font, then that means it was probably a signmaker who created this thing. Hmmmmmm.....
  16. Font Id please

Don't cha just love it when the client comes in and tells you that his logo's been created by a design/artist and "it's right here on this disk"? When you open it, it's a low rez .jpg. In this case the client was completely fooled. The artist is no where to be found. He doesn't even remember...
  17. Font Id please

Ok, it's not Cooper Black Italic, but what is it? Thanks in advance to you sharp eyed members.
  18. Help with flat screen monitor

Jeffr0land, exactly where is that option? I don't see it. I'm running Windows XP Pro.
  19. Help with flat screen monitor

Ok, I think the video card is UniChrome IGP with 64 MB memory. The system memory is 448 MB.
  20. Help with flat screen monitor

Stan, tried the refresh rate changes. Only 60 mhz seems to work. It won't let you do 85mhz. And 75 is even worse. Fred, fiddled with most of the screen settings and can't seem to get it.
