We print magnet stock direct on our HP Scitex flatbed. It’s kind of a pain since there is a strip of steel on the input and exit tables that the magnet wants to stick to, so I tape a strip of styrene over it whenever I run magnet. You also kind of have to babysit it to make sure the magnet exits...
Yeah that stuff is a problem! We use the high tack clear Rtape and it works better than any paper masking, but it's still a pain. I was told by the 3M rep it works better in humid environments, and that in a dry climate (such as we have here in Sacramento) static can cause the vinyl to not want...
I was having similar issues with our Royal Sovereign after many years of successful operation. Machine is about 11 years old. We bought the pull scale and used it to even the pull across the rollers but after about 6 months it started slipping again. So we made the adjustment again and this time...
No, I don’t, but you might be able to find a service manual online somewhere. Or if you initiate a service call they might just give you that info for free - most of the techs I know are so busy they’ll do anything to get you through the problem without coming out.
Back in the early 00’s I worked graveyard shift at Kinko’s and our air conditioner went down right when the whole FedEx takeover was happening. They refused to pay for a replacement (in Sacramento, CA where summer days regularly get to 100+) for several months and the store manager tried to help...
I don’t think you’ll get it to print correctly that way - if you set it for CMYK my guess is it won’t fire the light cyan nozzles at all. I do know there’s a chip in the ink cartridge that prevents you from putting it in the wrong slot, so I doubt the ink configuration is that configurable.
I...
We have a VS-540 and I always laminate the day after I print, even with full coverage. It’s sometimes not even 24 hours and we have a whole bunch of wall murals up at two universities, indoor & outdoor, that have never delaminated after 4+ years.
There are a couple of panels within these murals...
We were told reflective is fine as long as you manually clean the heads after a run, so that’s what we do. That’s from the Grimco tech who installed our flatbed.
He did say mirrors are a no-no, but he went on to elaborate that actually you can print a mirror if it’s a certain type. Apparently...
I print UV on reflective blanks on our HP flatbed and the reflectivity still shows quite well through the ink, surprisingly so. When I really want it opaque (as I do for one customer who does solely black text on HIP reflective) I put it in backlit mode and it lays the ink on so thick it looks...
Solvent penetrates the surface of the media more and thus doesn’t have texture like UV ink, so that’s what you want if you are doing vehicle decals because it won’t crack.
We try to buy from Kelly Spicers since we can will call from our local branch or have them delivered with our paper order if we make the $375 minimum. That way there’s no shipping charge and you can buy most of the sizes in singles rather than bundles. There’s no branding, just the size &...
I've never had that happen with 13oz, but I have seen it with Catapult PET blockout. I stopped using Grimco for our everyday media after some lousy service, now I usually I get Arlon from Fellers or BeLine from Glantz.
