there's a weird(background) eraser that will not erase your primary colour. click and hold down the eraser icon and make sure you're on the standard eraser

you are correct sir, some reason i made all the objects an overlay over the background. the correct way, would be as you describe, with the texture over the flag / frame elements and text on top. thanks!

not sure what version of flexi you have, but from my experiences she just don't handle text effects all that well. probably best to stick with adobe for those embellishments. 10's supposed to have drop shadows and more, but i have not had a chance to try
