  1. I'm officially retireing from doing race car lettering!!!!

Funny, we're getting into the race scene more seriously. We're taking a different approach though. I've been building this off and on for the last 6 months. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOarRuyulyg&noredirect=1
  2. Should USCUtter accept Bitcoin payments?

I've added Bitcoin payments to all of my ecommerce sites. Bitcoin is a great way to transfer money from person to person while sticking it to the CC companies (aka processing fees). When you get your money, it is yours. Currently there is no chargeback mechanism so this is appealing for...
  3. Run Caldera RIP in Hyper-V Manager of Windows 8? or 7?

You should make sure Caldera supports this. Just because it is a virtual machine doesn't mean it will necessary work as intended. Especially when connected to an external device. If it isn't officially supported I would not do it as you'll likely run into some odd bug.
  4. Mimaki CJV30-60 printer

For Sale: Mimaki CJV30-60 printer. This is a great print/cut machine. We are getting into some new projects and I am getting ready to buy the 54" version of this machine. That is the only reason I am selling it. The printer is almost 3 years old and it has always been kept clean and running...
  5. How to leave JV3 for weekend and holiday...

Just leave it plugged in (back power switch ON) and I wouldn't mess with the cycle times either honestly. It is pumping ink to protect your $800+ print heads from drying out. These machines are designed to stay plugged in while ink is in the print heads.
  6. JV3 head alignment is their a simple way?!!

I know you're looking for a simple explanation but there isn't one. This is normally something you hire a tech to do. This manual has the best explanation on doing the mechanical adjustments. You can't just turn the screw on the front, you need to loosen the head screw in the back to allow it...
  7. JV3 head alignment is their a simple way?!!

You can't align the JV3 without some sort of magnification lense, like a loupe or similar. We bought something cheap off of ebay that worked fine. It sounds like what you are seeing is right, the point of that particular alignment is to align the position of the other heads to the black. A...
  8. Mimaki JV3-160SP Firmware update

You're right, 3.1 was the version that enabled using any bulk ink with no chips. Honestly, you've already done the hard part and don't have to rely on any chips with 3.1, so I would keep it. We originally downgraded to 3.1 to use MegaInk (long ago) and eventually moved to triangle but kept 3.1...
  9. Mimaki JV3-160SP Firmware update

The only piece of equipment I've ever ruined updating firmware was one of our Mimaki JV3 160sp 5+ years ago. Something happened during the firmware update and ruined the main board. So you asked what could happen, that is certainly possible. Why do you want to upgrade it?
  10. On the fence : Mimaki CJV30-60 or Roland VersaCAMM SP-300i

I can't comment on the Roland, but the CJV is a nice machine (basically a JV33). The cutter also works well, but quite a bit slower than a stand alone. On the material size issue, most companies (in the US at least) can cut down a roll of 54" vinyl to 24". A friend of mine has a CJV and has...
  11. Why I hate outsourcing

Didn't even see it to be honest until you mentioned it, I was looking at the tiny lighter colored bands between passes. If that isn't in the artwork then yeah they should own up to it, looks like a channel is out on one of the print heads.
  12. Why I hate outsourcing

Sorry to go against the grain here, but that doesn't look bad for a corrugated plastic job on a UV printer. I've worked with several UV machines and all of them have very minor banding on corrugated. The type of corrugated would matter also, some of it is more flat than others. If someone...
  13. JV3 130SP II Printing problem on 720x720

I agree with VanderJ. I have seen this several times. Your test draw actually indicates where the problem( or part of it is). If you look in the the test draw you'll clearly see a bow near the top in the 2nd head. You're also missing a lot of nozzles directly adjacent in the yellow. Maybe a...
  14. Caldera or Onyx RIP?

If I were starting fresh I would absolutely try Caldera first. Used Onyx since V6 on many different machines, this sums up my thoughts on it: :banghead: sorry, tired of typing the same things over and over, read some of my old posts about it. Once your shop becomes "invested" in a rip as far...
  15. Direct to substrate durability

If you had a choice I would pick vinyl with an overlaminate. I would assume your vendor has their act together when it comes to printing directly to metal, but I can tell you from experience certain types of dibond will not work well with UV. Some UV ink just doesn't stick really good to metal...
  16. Considering a mimaki cjv30 130

I've used a lot of print/cut combinations the CJV is as good as it gets in my opinion. Don't expect perfection from any of them, but it rarely does a cut that you'll have to reprint. Reading your original post, loading will be critical if you are cutting something that long. If you get it...
  17. Considering a mimaki cjv30 130

The CJV is basically a JV33 so in that regard it is built very well and has a good track record. A friend of mine has a CJV30-60 and it is a nice machine. He runs the ES3 ink set and it has little to no odor. As far as the cutting system it tracks excellent. He has very little issues with it...
  18. Mimaki JV3 160-SP

Is the media tight on the roll and/or are you using the take up? This sort of horizontal banding sometimes happens because of the tension in front of or behind the media. The media will pull off in clumps making the feed comp vary. To rule it out, load the material androll out some of the...
  19. What to do with a recently deceased machine.

MikePro pretty much said it all. Lots of value there, most of the small stuff is easily shippable also. I will add the take up motor/assembly also, I've seen those go out on most every JV3 eventually.
