  1. Scam Emails

They've hit almost every other industry, it was only a matter of time. Is this the scam where they ask you to pay their shipping agent?
  2. Light Cyan and Light Magenta

If good enough is okay with you, then by all means, keep doing what you're doing. Leave all the clients with brand colors for the rest of us. ;) We'll deal with the color snobs all day long for those six and seven figure accounts!
  3. Light Cyan and Light Magenta

My understanding is that CMYKcm reduces the need for cyan and magenta halftones. You get better gradients, for instance.
  4. Banner Tape and Grommets- How Do You Mark Where They Go?

Fiery XF also has the option to add grommet marks and crop marks, but we usually just do it in Illustrator. Same way Big Easy described.
  5. flat bed printers

Whoops. I meant to say it was around 16 or 17 cents per square foot, not for a full sheet of coro. In general it's about $4 to $6 worth of ink for a full 4'x8' sheet.
  6. Flatbed ink that has a gloss finish?

I don't know of any printers or inks that have a gloss finish on the ink, but I do know that several companies have the option of a varnish channel. swissQprint has the option on several printers and VUTEk has a couple printers that offer a clear varnish.
  7. flat bed printers

This sounds about right. We generally hover around 16 or 17 cents for a full 4'x8' sheet using just CMYKLCLM.
  8. Employee mistakes

I think maybe you're misconstruing what I'm saying. We're not technically rewarding people for being on time. The on-time bonus is really just part of their pay rate. A bonus sounds better than an on-time malus. It puts accountability on the person. You don't get in trouble for being late (as...
  9. Employee mistakes

Well, like I said, it's worked into the pay rate. Someone who makes $10.50 an hour with an on time bonus and doesn't show to work on time is only getting $10 an hour. They're effectively punishing themselves by not coming to work on time. It's not playing games, it's making people accountable...
  10. Employee mistakes

Just to be clear, I don't actually own the business, so I don't pay the bills. There is plenty of research that shows that employees are happier and more productive when they're given incentives instead of punishments. On time bonuses that are factored into hourly wages aren't any different than...
  11. Employee mistakes

Very true. Bonuses are also more effective than punishing employees. We have an hourly "on-time" bonus here that employees get for showing up to work on time. If you're late once the bonus is lost and has to be re-earned by not being tardy for X amount of days.
  12. Employee mistakes

Just to reiterate what's already been said you absolutely CAN NOT deduct pay from your employee. It's illegal and if you do so, YOU can actually get into hot water if your employee goes to a lawyer or the NLRB for unfair labor practices. I realized after I posted this that you're in Canada, so...
  13. flat bed printers

If you have the cash to drop, check out the swissQprint Nyala 2. It's expensive and the delivery time is long (I think it was four to six weeks when we were looking at it), but I've never heard a bad word about about swissQprint and it has a TON of awesome features.
  14. flat bed printers

We're running a VUTEk H2000 Pro (hybrid) and it's pretty amazing for sheet material. We've had a few minor issues, but nothing TOO serious so far. As far as speed goes, it's pretty impressive. Full 4'x8' sheets of coro in about four minutes and they still look good. We've got the roll to roll...
  15. Weird vinyl issue. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

Looks pretty similar. We use both Mactac vinyl and laminate, so I doubt it's related to incompatible materials. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a batch of bad vinyl or laminate though, since it happens from time to time. I guess maybe it looks like a combination of faulty materials and/or...
  16. Weird vinyl issue. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

JB, hadn't even thought of that. Good point.
  17. Weird vinyl issue. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

Definitely made by us. The sign that looks fine is actually two years older than the bad one. I haven't been to the site, but my understanding is that they're getting about a half days worth of sun each (from the sales rep via the customer). We've never stocked any kind of mylars as far as I...
  18. Weird vinyl issue. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

This was printed for a customer about three years ago. It was done on a Colorspan Gator to Mactac 5 year with a Mactac UV lustre laminate coating and mounted to dibond. Included a picture of the sign as it's supposed to look (not the same sign, however) and what it looks like now. Nobody around...
  19. How often is your flatbed or other equipment down?

We're currently running a VUTEk H2000 (which is technically a hybrid) and have only had it "down" one time, when we had a part replaced for QOL issues. On the other hand, our Rastek T1000 was down about a week or two a month. Right now it's a material shelf.
  20. VUTEk H2000 or Oce Arizona 660 GT?

We ended up going with the H2000. We've had a few small issues, but overall it's been a pretty smooth transition. Thanks for all the insights!
