That's kindof what I wondered / suspected. PVC sheeting is much cheaper than a real cutting mat. Cheap enough you can change it out whenever you choose.
Once I thought aluminum would be great for the same reason you probably like glass....but the knife cuts into the aluminum. Glass would...
Are cutting mats worth the expense ? Or do many just use PVC sheets for their production tables ?
Does anyone have a lead on the cheapest place to buy cutting mats. I'm looking at 5 x 18 feet.

I've heard the previous Mutoh's were problematic....but have heard also that the new ValueJet is new from the ground up. It's too soon to know how it is going to hold up. The fact it's not a 3rd generation of previous problematic versions is good. We'll see.

Only glanced at the hoses once and wasn't paying close attention.....but I do recall looking them (the hoses). If my recollection is correct....they were clear hoses. I know you could easily see the ink thru the hoses...if that means they are the clear hoses perhaps.

Just got our Mutoh ValueJet up and running today. We're seeing some incredible high quality prints coming out at blazing fast speeds. Only time will tell.....if it will hold up mechanically to production volume or not.
We also have the matching Mutoh Ultima 48'' cutter / plotter. Now...
Hey Willy.....I went thru my emails and didn't see anything from you. So dunno what's up. Shoot me another email....maybe you have the wrong address ??

Hi Willy.....
I've been away from my desk all day and will be away tomorrow also. Just got back late Tuesday nite. And still haven't picked up all my emails (close to 50). Sorry I missed your email so far....but I'll get to it in a moment.

U'll get it figured out, it's just a little frustrating at first....I did an Internet search and tried to find some answers but haven't found anything yet pertaining to the PNC 1100.....if I do I'll post or email you.

(joking with you....) You should have gotten the Graphtec then you wouldn't have those problems - or at least if you did, someone could answer your questions.
Neil you are exactly right when you say...."I get the feeling the designer has never actually used the cutter." You hit the nail on the head.
Manufacturers need to spend a day or two or three in a production type sign shop where things are happening. Then they would KNOW what features are...
Try it if you want.....regarding vinyl bunching up like mentioned with 48'' material and even not as wide material. I pull one of the grit rollers in away from the outside edge.
For example: On 36 inch vinyl I set the grit rollers at around 24 or 30 inches apart. And on 24 inch vinyl I...
We've owned around 6 or 8 Graphtecs. Starting back before the 3100 series (what was that...the 2100 I think). We still have a couple of 3100's and a 4100 and a 5100.
The hardware integrity and firmware has progressively gotten worse since the 3100. In all the years, we have never had an...
I would go with Helvetca Bold or try to find (or create) an extra bold version - naturally the spacing (kerning) needs to be adjusted to match the trademark look
Just got our ValueJet...waiting setup on Tuesday....we also got the Mutoh 48'' cutter which supposedly has firmware / software enhancements to the countour cutting portion.
Stay tuned for more........

I didn't get interested in signs until I was in my early 20's. I got a job in a sign shop because I had grown up in the trade watching my dad. And could get a job that paid more than other jobs. So why not.
I wasn't until I got my feet wet for a couple years working in the...
