take a camera pic of the type of banding. I have a lot of problems with banding on the 1604 because of too much ink on the media. What kind of RIP are you using and have you performed all of the internal Mutoh media calibrations.
UV ink and wood works well, I have never had to treat any wood surface before printing, but be sure to clean it, your print heads will thank you later.
For tough stains/crud and areas not indirect contact with the printhead use IPA or Acetone (Nail Polish Remover....this stuff works best) For areas directly contacting the printhead try to stick to the solvent base of the ink (you know the cleaning cartridges that have been sitting on the shelf...
mimakitech24 I have to disagree. If you release a machine into the industry that requires that much retrofit...you are bound to piss some people off. Mimaki has nowhere near the dominance in the industry (following your Microsoft analogy) to afford that level of indifference and arrogance.

As a solvent tech I too have some misgivings when someone asks me about purchasing a Mimaki JV5... I agree they can be good production machines, but the way they were engineered leaves something to be desired...and techs hate FCOs or field upgrades or retrofits or any of that Appolo...

I am a solvent tech, and I have done 8 of these installs, so far all good results over the past couple of months. I think that the quality of these inks are better than what we've seen in the industry in the past. It is definitely better than bulk ink as these inks are an oem alike cartridge :)...
