  1. Question I ve to let my CJV30 during 3 Weeks alone :(

Having a remote desktop program on your RIP PC is a handy thing even if you're not going for long. I've definitely had to make some emergency fixes for work while being away; first time was a pain to set up, but now that it's there it's a bit quicker :)
  2. Buying new Laminator, GFP or Royal Sovereign??

Mmm. We use a Royal Sovereign daily, but we did demo a really nice Seal. I can't say we love our RS - it's not the most... sturdy, and we find the rubber on the arm that holds the laminate core doesn't always grip it well, leading to problems with tension. We aren't confident to run long...
  3. Need Help 80600 and wrap vinyl

We generally use Avery MPI 1105 SC RS. I really liked the Arlon SLX to print, but our installers were frustrated with it being not tacky enough and any weeding of smaller shapes was painful as it wouldn't stay on the liner. Really liked the 3mIJ180 to install, but we had trouble with banding...
  4. Need Help How many profiles do you really need?

This is super helpful, thank you! I'm going to check this out. I'm pretty sure we've paid for the Roland guy to come in and do the colours on the machine, I've watched him do that. As for overprint, feed calibration, vacuum power, dry time, head height and heater controls, I do that on a per-job...
  5. Workflow software, what works for you?

Wow, we don't delete anything that fast. Maybe we'll toss the proofs out (we have them in emails anyway if we really needed them) but we've had to go back to old files numerous times. So-and-so's car got in an accident and we need to match a panel, someone's sign went missing and they need a...
  6. "...But we don't want to spend a lot..."

We're getting a lot of this recently. "I want it larger, but the same price please"
  7. Need Help How many profiles do you really need?

Ah see I didn't know this either - I thought canned was something like "generic II" on versaworks, while we often use the matching profile from Avery or 3M's website instead. We did have a problem, for instance, with an 3MIJ180 roll quite a while back, and the first thing they asked was "are you...
  8. Workflow software, what works for you?

We've moved to CoreBridge as well, just recently. The quoting is good, but since we're a small workforce it might be pretty expensive for what we need.
  9. Quality Check

mm in that seam photo, is the vinyl overstretched into the corner? Looks like it's fading a bit but I can't tell in the photo. It's not a nice job. Bubbles are whatever, but the wrinkles are pretty bad. But as mentioned earlier, we're also careful not to crap on other local shops. It's one of...
  10. Need Help How many profiles do you really need?

I haven't had any issues with our downloaded Avery/3M/Orofol profiles or the occasional canned one we use, so I haven't made it a priority. It seems, though, that this is a really valuable process, so it will be worth me looking further into. We're a chain, and that kind of thing simply wasn't...
  11. Tips for a pattern on a windy day

+1 to the corro. We've used old 4x8s to stick the templates to; even handier if there's more than one set of identical channel letters.
  12. Tiling wall graphics tips

The 180 turn makes it so the edges that are overlapping are coming out of the printer on the same side, helping to make them match as best as possible. When you're printing bi-dirctional one side can sometimes be slightly less vibrant than the other.
  13. Vehicle Wrap Failure on Sharp Curves

I overstretched while wrapping my mirrors a while back for practice, and they bacon-edged like that. Asked our installer how far I can stretch it, and he said honestly pretty far, but I probably forgot to let it rest a bit and post-heat before trimming (he was right! I neglected the patience and...
  14. Smile, if you're old enough to remember...

Oh wow look how many he's got! I only had a few dozen as a kid I think. I'm sure they're hanging around in the attic somewhere. I remember bending my favorite Dennis The Menace one by accident.
  15. All it's missing is the circus music...

Watching from up in Canada, we're all here with held breath trying to figure out what the heck is going on down there
  16. Need Help Best Roland Printer

This is what we use. I don't have anything to compare it to for speed, but it's user friendly enough and the fact that it also can cut makes it pretty useful for our small print shop. We're not pumping out so much that it can't keep up - yet!
  17. Need Help File corrupt

I have had that issue before with Dual, but never with 6. A print-spooler clear, job log clear, and initialization fixed it, I think... but if you're reinstalled it, that seems like it would cover some of that.
  18. Question Air channel vs not

For 3x3 or 5x5, what quality are you talking? We get a lot of real estate signage or other semi-temporary stuff so we do stickers on the margins of those, since most of our sticker orders are also temp/cheapy ones. We don't use air-egress for coroplast/windows/temp stuff - I was under the...
  19. Media for stencilled decal

Re: OP's post, a small image like that on a back window can by made with a cheap cut vinyl. When making the cut lines for it, try not to go too small or too complex or it won't weed nicely. My first tiny letters weren't so long ago; I wish someone had told me then to drop the heat on the Roland...
  20. Printing on color vinyl.

Honestly, we had a roll of 2080 for a seadoo job, and our installer hated it. He said he's just so used to working carefully with uncovered vinyl that it felt unnatural and difficult to tell if he was bubbling or wrinkling. Now that might just be him being stubborn, but he's the one applying so...
