  1. How come flexi does not print exactly like...

Basically for all uses. My issue today is we are printing/cutting some decals for a semi-pro sports team. It is a very simple 1 color (purple) decal that we have in a vector format. We are printing on a 48" Mutoh Valuejet onto 3651, then we wil be laminating and contour cutting on a graphtec...
  2. How come flexi does not print exactly like...

Corel Draw? We get beatiful and fairly accurate color prints when we print to our Mutoh from Corel. but frequently we have to screw around a lot with flexing (trying different colors etc). I just printed the same mini-swatchbook from Corel and Flexi (the file was copied from corel into flexi...
  3. Okay...So I'm gonna sign a SIGN WAREHOUSE Lease

We purchased a cutter/valuejet/laminator combo from sw. We have been very happy with all of the equipment, and considering it was a long distance deal, the transaction and customer/technical support went as well as possible. We are pretty crafty, so we really did not need on-site setup, but...
  4. Pdf

We never make PDF's in PS or Illi. Nor do we use Acrobat.
  5. What's the best free font management program?

Free? Dont know about free except with the "free" Font Navagator that comes with Corel Draw. Phil, I know, thats not exactly free. Anyhow, Font Navagator does everything we need it to.

Your right, I am in no way happy about loosing jobs. But for me to keep my business and my employees jobs, I have to make those tough decisions to use overseas outsourcing. I can't be competitive with some of my local competitors otherwise. It is honestly nothing I am proud of.

I bet some US doctor is "ticked off" though. I do agree that globalization will be a good thing for all people everywhere eventually. I just worry what us American workers are going to do in the meantime for jobs. The only thing that comes to mind is that we are going to have to figure out...

Revisions are no big deal. Even a moron (like myself) can open the India made graphic and make changes. We do it all the time. So far those services only do vector graphics and no bitmap stuff (although I expect they will be doing the bitmap stuff soon). We do it all the time. I'm not...

It's no more depressing than us loosing the textile industry, it's no more depressing than us loosing the family farms, no more depressing than us loosing the auto manufacturing industry, or when the tennis ball factory that I used to work in was shipped overseas, or when our local peach...

My wife fell friday and broke her arm and leg. They xrayed at the emergency room, transmitted the xrays to Charleston to be "read" by a specialist. The emergancy room gave me a bill and told me that I would be getting a seperate bill from the specials Whats to keep them from sending the xrays...

In our business, we just let the computer do the creative work. Saves us a lot of labor. At least thats the way our customers think we do it. There are also a whole crap load of people in India that help us out with recreating logos - at less than $5 per hour. I can email a bad scan at 5pm...
  12. How big is your shop sq.ft ceiling ht etc?

18 Feet dropping to 16 feet. In our screen printing and offset printing production area it goes all the way up, but above the office area, we have 8 feet ceilings and a storage loft above it. That gave us an extra 1200 sf basically for free. And in the future, we could build in more upstairs...
  13. how much would you charge.

$140.48 each Yes, I know, that is rediculously cheap, but if we charged $200+++ we would have no business at all because our local competitors dont charge much either. Regardless we still make money at that price. Its like $25 each in materials and a half hour to make it (not including...
  14. Screen printing in your sign shop

We have a 10 platten, 8 station, 6 color auto and a 4 color manual and a 6 color hat press (that we rarely use) and a numbering machine. We also have a couple of small format offset presses along with a lot of bindery equipment. Like someone else said, to us it is like we offer advertising...
  15. Too many sign shops!!

I think that we will be seeing a lot more offset printing companies getting into signs. Offset printing is a shrinking industry (probably why your neighbor closed shop), and those printers who are able to survive will be forced to expand their product line. From the standpoint of an offset...

  17. How many people work at your business?

2 FT csr/designers 2 FT screen printers 1 FT sign maker 1 FT offset printer And myself - I do whatever needs to be done at the time. But most everyone can do multiple jobs, so we do a lot of swaping around.
  18. Think about getting into the full color sign business

Ron, with an 80 truck order, keep in mind that you need to focus on print speed as much as anything. All the machines that I have looked at all print great, but speed varies alot. And, I do agree that with such a big order, it makes sense to go ahead and take the plunge. Sometimes, when the...
  19. Think about getting into the full color sign business

Ron, I tried to tell 'em but they don't listen some times. I think some people have to eat some crow now. I am also expanding my sign capabilities, and have occassionally run into the same crap. Overall there is no better group to learn from, but a lot of people entertain themselves by...
  20. Think about getting into the full color sign business

Maybe he has, he did not say. Just because your ordered full color does not mean that you have a clue of what equipment brands to purchase.
