One of the main issues is if you do get a faulty head from them ( which plenty of people seem to ) they refuse to refund or replace. They will tell you to return it so their 'expert technicians' can inspect them, which takes a couple of months.

Unless you are printing a LOT of white, like hours every day, then it isn't really worth doing. The white ink is a bit of a nightmare. If not used regularly it clogs very easily and also the printer will use a lot more of it doing auto cleaning etc... If you only need it for odd jobs you are...

I have used straight acetone in the past just to get a completely blocked head partially working for testing printers. It definitely works a lot better than straight cleaning solution just for experimenting

I agree, it also depends how long the head has been dried out. I have opened up very old blocked heads just out of interest, and the pigment inside was like concrete! That is another thing they do. A lot of the parts they sell as being OEM Roland aren't. They also advertise a lot of things they don't have in stock as having a 4-6 week lead time

Yep, that is their standard thing. The last time I had to return a head they said it would take 2 months for their 'technical experts' to test it. And you can guarantee they will say it is fine.

True, I don't know of anyone who is selling hundreds of fully working refurbished print heads. I'm sure if they were the whole printing industry would know about them? Maybe they do just in China....

I agree OEM parts can be expensive, but you are pretty much guaranteed they will work properly. Some generic Chinese parts are OK, but some can cause more damage or problems with the printer because they don't work properly. If you get a cheap captop an it doesn't seal properly then the head can...

For logos you an also try seeklogo.com they do a similar range to brandsoftheworld but often have more on there

They are not a legitimate Roland parts dealer, just another chinese scam site. Order from a proper supplier rather than trying to get one on the cheap and you will get a decent working head.

Never clean the heads with ultrasound cleaners! They will kill the head straight away

The head rank tunes the head, it doesn't make it work or not work. Where did you get the replacement head? Was it from China as they often sell non working used ones as 'refurbished' You can enter the number from any roland head and the head will still work

I'm not very familiar with those. I think it should still have pinch sensors at each end of the head travel though to let the printer know it has reached the end?

I would guess the pinch sensor as well. That would be the first thing I would check

Check the ink lines from the cartridge dock to the damper. Did you also replace the O ring seal for the damper? Anywhere air can get into the system will cause the kind of ink starvation you are seeing. If the damper has any slight air leaks it will stop the ink drawing into the head. Also check...

It depends really on what your business is. Yes if all you do is print then you should be making that much, but people often have them for other reasons as part of another business. I don't make that much from printing as it is a secondary part of my other businesses, but is still worth doing...

OK so if you have a printer that you have already paid for, and it costs £2000 to fix, you are saying it is better to just scrap that and spend £15,000 on a new printer?

That is fine if you have plenty of money. Roland printers will go on for years if maintained and odd issues fixed.
