  1. Suggestions Adding slitters to roll laminator?

short runs this has never been an issue, but full-roll or multiple-roll runs I just takeup the whole print onto a roll and then hit it with the bandsaw. i've simply placed teflon tape in places where the sticky overhang laminate would touch anything before making its way to the roll. issue I...
  2. What laminations do you use?

Arlon and Briteline(grimco housebrand) are my current favorites. cast/calendared, all good stuff. we still use a lot of 8508, but we don't treat it like its a "true cast" like 8518-8520 that we could wrap a car with. flat stuff only, indoor use or inside of a frame outdoor.
  3. Paint not adhering to digitally receptive acrylic

there's a chemical resistant coating on that side. maybe an orbital or some MEK to break it down? idk, at least you're painting it so it could be worth a shot to beat it up a bit. i believe the intent is to reverse-print on one side and to have the protection on the "face" for antigraffiti...
  4. What lamination to use on printed reflective?

+1 to optically clear overlam. gloss/lustre works in a pinch for our handicap signs, but its a major difference when you up it to optically clear for more POP. satin/matte dulls the reflection bigtime, but is a cool effect to mix&match on some stuff for vehicle graphics.
  5. Large indoor polycarbonate installation advice needed

not a fan of relying on adhesives for overhead panels. one kid whacks it and it comes down with a mighty chop i'd be framing it in some sort of cabinet, with a frame for the polycarb, that's bolted into a supporting structure. if you're uncertain about painting the polycarb, try painting a...
  6. Decal needs to be 50' long

tell them its a minimum order of 25 rolls or you'll have to upcharge for wasted print/lam media....or tile it
  7. Stomp shear vs panel saw

i use a stomp shear, with a piece of scrap dibond at the crunch point to keep it from stomping on the finish of the panel. still, the edges get rounded a bit at the cut but it doesn't take away from the quality of a dibond sign. i still like cnc routing it better, panelsaw would be identical...
  8. Tritium sign disposal

tires aren't inherently dangerous either, but we don't just simply toss em in the dumpster. agreed that red tape sucks, but I'd rather not be the guy cutting checks for fines when I get caught in the act.
  9. INK for HP Latex

I mean, if you're already buying non-OEM 792 printheads then why not trust the ink they supply as well?
  10. UV Printable Acoustic Panels

huge fan of going local for this kind of thing. much easier to dropoff&pickup, than to add packing/shipping or wait for samples/proofs/etc. find someone with a UV flatbed near you and develop a working relationship, and then start buying time on their machine for days at a time.
  11. Tritium sign disposal

got my head spinnin now thinkin about the kinds cool signs I could make with Tritium scraps encapsulated in resin. I'm already living under a 5g tower, so what else could go wrong?
  12. Tritium sign disposal

id imagine every region has someone that deals with hazardous waste disposal. Just get a quote from your local ADCO and add it to your exit sign replacement quote.
  13. High Resolution side shots of trucks

Mfg. website 3D viewer and/or 3D model websites have some clean images.
  14. Next CNC Router... suggestions please.

my multicam 3000's have been running beautifully for 20years. only had a tech onsite twice, which could have been avoided if I had gotten up to speed with my DIY ability to diagnose/repair, but that was nearly 10years ago. I have now replaced a few stepper controllers and a set of four bearing...
  15. Need Help Old Bank back lit sign to be replaced with new liquor store info

with that gradient in the artwork it would be easier to use a printer, but black vinyl will do just fine if you can simply convert the gradient into a halftone pattern or omit it altogether.
  16. Additional U-channel Support

have they considered simply stringing a cable and hanging the parking signs? ...or maybe mounting to the wall of the building?
  17. Flat toolbox and trailer prints

we use vehicle wrap vinyl for most things we intend to last a long time. I'd rather put a few more bucks into materials and give the client a longer-lasting product while saving on labor over "making it work" with economy vinyl. ....but dealer's choice really, flat is flat and if it works it works.
  18. Need help building a wireway!

its just a pair of metal pans made with 1" aluminum extruded angle. screw one to the building, and the face-pan that houses all the wiring caps onto it and fastens at the sides.
  19. bidirectional detail calibration setup overlapping lines are not within -20 +20 more like they could be +30

curious. what's your nozzle test print look like?
  20. bidirectional detail calibration setup overlapping lines are not within -20 +20 more like they could be +30

first line looks like +15 to me, you're no2 line might be "off the chart" but not really... just cap it at 20, or try a little higher if you really want but I don't think it would be anywhere near 30. no4 +15 no3 +9. no2 +20-24 no1 +16 this forum saved my ass back in my mimaki jv3 days, but...
