  1. Your opinion on large banners

I'm looking for it, because our company had done some extensive tests on the use/need of wind slits, and have some lit on it. Basically, it really doesn't do anything as a benefit, but can actually rip out and ruin your banner quicker than a really strong wind will. Edit: Found the part of...
  2. 30"x10' Banner price check

    We're about here as well.
  3. A ranting lunatic on the value of design.

From what I've witnessed here (I deal with salespersons who deal with the clients, either in person or on the phone, email, etc..), I believe a lot of it is our sales staff doesn't try and explain the benefit of a well-designed sign. Case in point: we had an upstart company bring us a 3 panel...
  4. movie soundtracks and other relaxing music

The movie soundtracks that are on my iPod currently are: O Brother, Where Art Thou? Planet of the Apes (the remake, with Danny Elfman's score) Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
  5. digital printing

Either screen printed, or UV printing. We farm out some of our bigger jobs to a company that uses UV printers, and their prints come back looking like a whole lot of stippling. We do screen printed here too, and if you're looking at the bigger dots, that's a halftone, like Mosh was saying. One...
  6. Design Contest - Death Metal Poster!

Man, I'm kicking myself for not signing up on this one. The rockin' emoticon should've given it away for me. Poo...
  7. If you won the lottery...

Pay off EVERYTHING (house, car, etc..). Take a nice vacation. More than likely I'd either continue working (because I go nutty with nothing to do), or build my workshop and take some luthier classes and start building instruments.
  8. Photoshop running crappy

What's the resolution of the file you're working on? For us, anything between 100-150dpi at full size has been optimal; anything higher takes far too long to open. In fact, we had a psd file sent from a client today for their 24"x60" banner. It was 300dpi and 41 layers and was 1.3g.
  9. Musicians - Let's hear your stuff

Here's the link to my Reverb Nation page, with all of my tunes on them. http://www.reverbnation.com/monjoody Disc: it's all just tracked bass parts. I only mention that because when my guitarist friend listened to "One Quick Thought," he was hurt that I wouldn't call him to lay down the...
  10. Does your sign company have a website?

http://www.consort.com Our site is in dire need of updating. Our web designer has been very diligent in getting the wheels in motion, and has a really great idea for it. The biggest thing we need to do is provide some sort of continuity between all of our sites and products.
  11. Jv-33

If the SS21 inks are a milder solvent (than the SS2 inks for the JV3), what are the ES3 inks then? Super eco-solvent?
  12. JV5 vs. JV3

All of your reasons are the exact ones I'm telling the boss too. Plus, with two JV3s, we could run one project over both machines and have a modicum of color difference (I realize there will be some, as no two printers are "exactly" alike). Speed is a big factor of getting a second printer...
  13. JV5 vs. JV3

Probably because I only asked about the JV5 and the JV3. I have looked into the JV33, and am actually scheduled to go to the Advantage Sign Supply office in a couple weeks and check it out. Thanks for the info on the JV5; our sales rep echoed that there have been problems still with the JV5...
  14. JV5 vs. JV3

Due diligence. If I'm spending the boss' money, I'm going to exhaust all options before saying "This is the next printer we need." For the record, I want a JV3-250sp for the fact that it is the same machine. So, given the fact that we're looking between the JV5 and the JV3, are there any...
  15. JV5 vs. JV3

Can anyone tell me the advantages/disadvantages of one over the other? I'm doing some research about getting a second machine, and am curious about these two (we already have a JV3-160sp and love it).
  16. Font ID Please!

Harrington. Looks like they bolded it up a bit too.
  17. Specific Clip Art piece needed

I believe because, since it would be a licensed piece of clipart, converting it to vector would in essence be copying it, and subject to applicable penalties.
  18. Help with a Font ID

It looks pretty close to Herculanum, in lowercase.
  19. I Really Need Opinions

Sibole, you mentioned that there is a sign shop in town. If you're so well known in your area (as you stated), could you go in there and see about a part time job, even if it's just a small handful of hours a week, when the kids are either with their dad or a sitter? Then you could find out...
  20. Font ID Please

Honestly, that one looks simple enough that you should be able to recreate it, especially since the R and the N are really close, there are 3 O's, etc..
