Hey, thanks for the offer. I'll keep it in mind.

  2. Need Help My pinch roller lever got broken off

Lol, we broke the lever on one of our Graphtec FC9000s about 5 months ago. A set of vice-grips has become the replacement.
  3. Expand offerings - or limit focus?

My father can NOT say no, lol. It's been a strength and a weakness for a long time. I think we're finally in a place that saying "no" won't hurt us. And if we're lucky, soon we'll be able to actually pursue the jobs we want. We live in an industrial area. TONS of potential clients that don't...
  4. Expand offerings - or limit focus?

I appreciate the feedback, all. The Pareto Principal is interesting. This isn't the first time I've seen the 20/80 ratio at play. Texas_Signmaker, you're right. The list is a little convoluted with items that could be merged. I think seeing it that way had even had myself thinking there was...
  5. Expand offerings - or limit focus?

Hey all, I know everyone's business is very different, and point of views will vary, but I hope this will spark some discussion. While looking over sales breakdowns (for the year), I joked - "Wow, look at all the worthless things that hardly contribute anything". Referring to the bottom 75% of...
  6. The annual question...how was business this year?

Well, sheesh, a lot of orders were taken in the last 18 days. December was relentless, up until Christmas Eve. Here's an updated Sales chart, with 2 work days left in the year. We've been feeling really good about the shop lately, and are really looking forward to 2025 (Flatbed on the way!)
  7. Versa...Works or VersaVacation?: Why Is My Print Head Wandering Like It's on Vacation? Versaworks - versauv leaf - 12i and leaf2 -200 - unacceptable t

Our Rolands are all EcoSol and they do skip white spaces when sent from Versaworks. Meaning the heads don't move if no ink is needed. The feed is still incremental, and not a smooth scroll that spans long distances.
  8. Should we transition to a dedicated RIP (Onyx vs. Caldera)?

I see where you're coming from in some regards, but I think you may have an outdated bias against Roland. I certainly don't think they are the 'De Facto' printer, but I checked the specs on the Epson you suggested and it's production speed shows 310 sq ft / hour, compared to the Roland's spec...
  9. Should we transition to a dedicated RIP (Onyx vs. Caldera)?

Care to elaborate on your dislike for Roland? They've been good to us for many years. One of them is at least 12 years old, and it's been printing it's butt off nonstop. They're all extremely reliable, capable of great color, and pretty quick. If you say you have no experience with Versaworks, I...
  10. Should we transition to a dedicated RIP (Onyx vs. Caldera)?

Good to hear from someone who's made that same switch. I've watched some demos to try and get a better understanding. I see a few things so far that look kind of neat, but nothing completely game changing (for our particular output). I am still looking though, I am very open to change. Oh and we...
  11. Should we transition to a dedicated RIP (Onyx vs. Caldera)?

I'd consider ourselves professionals, we've been at it for over 30 years. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is how does Onyx affect efficiency? What exactly does Onyx offer? (their website is truly a convoluted vague mess). It takes like 5 seconds to setup a job using Versaworks. I don't...
  12. Should we transition to a dedicated RIP (Onyx vs. Caldera)?

Looking for opinions on dedicated RIP software like Onyx and Caldera. Our shop currently runs 5 Roland roll to roll printers, and 6 Graphtec plotters. We like Versaworks (free) and we like Cutting Master (free). We do a lot of print/cut jobs utilizing the Roland/Graphtec combo, and it's great...
  13. Know anything about the EU-1000MF Flatbed?

Their website shows 75k for 4 color (CMYK), and 80k for the 6 color (CMYK+Wh+Gloss). Looks to be about 9 4'x8' sheets per hour on the normal setting. ..not exactly blazing.
  14. Know anything about the EU-1000MF Flatbed?

Yeah, I saw that one. Not much to go off. Seems really strange, surely they've sold a bunch of these things? lol.
  15. Know anything about the EU-1000MF Flatbed?

Our shop is getting more and more interested in getting a flatbed. Our problem is, we're cheap. lol. We currently are running 5 Rolands (from Versaworks), which we're very pleased with, in conjunction with Graphtec plotters (Cutting Master). Ideally we'd get a nice Roland flatbed to compliment...
  16. The annual question...how was business this year?

It's been a pretty great year for us. Lots of changes around the shop. Additional plotter and printer. Lost two employees, gained two more. Knocked a wall down. Relocated lots of equipment and a few offices. Rebuilt our website and all around reinforced our branding through all the little things...
  17. "No More Walk-ins" - Good Idea, or Terrible Mistake?

I appreciate all the responses, very encouraging. I think it's just a matter of time that it happens. I'll have to use Stacey's line one a few people and gauge their reactions. Besides, there's such a flood of people making stickers on Facebook around here, I really don't mind letting them have...
  18. "No More Walk-ins" - Good Idea, or Terrible Mistake?

I think our shop is at a potential turning point, and I'm really anxious about it. We're a small crew (4 and a part timer). We've been going for 30 years, and this train ain't stopping. We're just incredibly busy, all the time. There's never a lull anymore. And customers seem to be getting...
