  1. Vinyl Stencil Window Painting.

I hate Gerber's mask with the fire of a thousand suns. I prefer Oracal's, it is much more forgiving. I'd pen plot or hand draw a big old paper pattern, tape it to whatever side of the window you're not painting, and use that as a guide. So much less expensive and much more authentic. I'd worry...
  2. Discussion Don't be greedy..............................

Thanks, Nick and Gino. I am still around. I had to get a "real" job due to being always underbid and just plain losing money on vynull signs. I switched to logo design and painted signs only in 2015 and have not looked back. I was laid off from my job in November (a month early, it's a yearly...
  3. Oracal 651 on flat paint failing - ideas and tips for re-install

...and then you can charge him to come out and fix it once he jacks up the decal :) I don't give the client options when it comes to vinyl (not that I do it anymore, I went back to handpainting) Really, for 15" vinyl, the price difference is not that much for 751.
  4. Oracal 651 on flat paint failing - ideas and tips for re-install

I agree with Bob. I would peel off the old stuff and make the guy repaint with an enamel such as Rustoleum. Then after that's dried about 10 days, go back and apply new vinyl, but go with 751, 851, or 951. 651 is an intermediate and should never have been used on this job in the first place...
  5. Question Anyone ever use One Shots Speed Dry UV Acrylic Clear Aerosol 4005AA

Do not, I repeat DO NOT spray it over 1-shot, it will crinkle like crazy. If you want the sign to not fade again, I would suggest using Ronan brand (colors similar to 1S but they do not fade) or try Novacolors latex based. No need for clear. Good luck! Love...Jill 1S used to make a brush-on UV...
  6. Need Help Indoor Wall Mural Over Vinyl Graphics

I agree, I would not paint over vinyl if I could avoid it. Your paint may not adhere properly, and the underlaying vinyl may not stay stuck. I would quote for removing the vinyl (if you think you can do it without damage) or specify that they remove it. Love....Jill
  7. New Owner of Signs101.com

Bittersweet indeed, Fred is just the best. I hope you can fill his shoes! I don't post much these days, having been forced to get a real job since signs are dead in my area. I haven't even been able to afford a Premium Membership like I always maintained. Welcome aboard! Love....Jill
  8. Jesse Hill - J Hill Designs- needs your thoughts and prayers

How horrible. Jesse is helpful and knowledgeable, always an upstanding guy. I sure hope he will be OK and will certainly keep him in my prayers. Love...Jill PS on a side note, a local young sign guy was found dead in his apartment Monday. His name was Bill Rau and he was a member here.
  9. Lorry graphic help

Hi Jason. I think, because this forum is based in the USA, that most folks don't know that a lorry is a truck. You could invest in an auto outline CD, that has scaled drawings of trucks, for starters. Or simply take a photo of the truck you plan to letter with a dollar bill (I know you don't...
  10. trouble client. Wants art files back.

I would charge them one hour's shop rate (mine is $75) and burn them onto a CD for them. Then, once paid, give them the CD and tell them to stick it up their bum. Love....Jill
  11. Vape / E cigarette signs

Yup! Some of the signs I've seen are excruciatingly ugly, too. I've had to re-do the one I made (as the client requested) because it infringed on a copyright (unbeknownst to me) Both of the ones I painted looked really nice, though, and the client was great to deal with. Love....Jill
  12. Handy Signs.

Niiice! I think your trip to Cincy has changed your life. Everything that you've been doing lately is just so nice. I can see a huge difference in your work. Love....Jill
  13. Copyright question

I just plain wouldn't do it. I was at a car show last year. Guy who had bought one of my charity auction panels approached. I was excited, thinking I'd finally get a job from my appearances there. He wanted a friggin' Walt Disney character painted on his truck. I said "Sorry, but that is...
  14. Police Car Reflective Vinyls??

I only ever use 3M Scotchlite. Make sure you get the air-release kind. Love....Jill PS...you will probably be underbid by IbisTek.
  15. Where to buy Grip Flex paint!

N Glantz in Monroeville or Pioneer in Pittsburgh. Love....Jill
  16. Cast vs. Calendared Vinyl

I was always taught that cast is a more premium product and should be used on long-term jobs and vehicles. Calendered can discolor and shrink, and is for cheaper jobs like corosigns. Love....Jill
  17. This is what I'm working on now, thoughts?

The one with the new leaves around Life. That looks a lot better than your initial stuff. I'd tighten the space between the words, and make PHOTOGRAPHY a little bigger. No brown tones or whatever on the leaves. I don't like having mountains and trees, of those, pick one or the other.
  18. Hi from Italy, Puglia

Puglia, you say? Is that where pugs come from? Welcome from Pennsylvania. Love....Jill
  19. This is what I'm working on now, thoughts?

The problem with it is, the lobster/hooves/shrimp/scorpion thing overpowers everything. It's what your eye goes to first, and has nothing to do with photography. I know I am beating a dead horse here because it's obvious the YOU like it, and your 10 friends :ROFLMAO: what do we know, we are all...
  20. trump from a marketing perspective only...no politics here please

I can't stand the guy. He's a loud mouth and he needs a makeover. But you have to admit, his overtaking of this campaign has been nothing less than diabolical.
