1624 print head replacement

We are going to attempt to replace the print head this afternoon. We are reasonably skilled and dextrous. We have the service manual. We would have it done professionally - but way too long a wait (maybe a week).

Was wondering if anyone here has done this and has any advice or points to remember?

Thanks,

Randy

DIY Printer Fixing Guide
1st and most importantly, turn the machine off, unplug it, push the power button a few times and wait about 10 minutes before working on the machine to avoid damage to the main board.

2nd Before turning power back on, double check all of your cables and make sure they are set properly. A lot of the time you might be working around the print head and hit the cables slightly which pulls them out crooked. If this happens you will blow a fuse.

3rd When reinstalling the dampers, wet the head manifold with cleaning solution first. If you try to put the dampers on dry, the seals can roll up and break the seal between the head and the damper. The solution will allow them to slide on smoothly.

4th The manual will tell you to empty the machine of ink before changing everything out. That just wastes a bunch of ink. You can do the entire replacement without removing the ink, just have some paper towel ready when you take the dampers off because they might drip a little. If you are taking the dampers off the ink line as well, it will drip more but eventually will stop. Just have the towel ready and you should be fine.

5th Buy parts and heads from Solventinkjet.com because you can call us during the installation if you get stuck or need advice.
