7151 Plus II Ink Expiration

I own a 7151 plus II. When I first got my machine I was not using it very much and a mimaki tech while servicing my unit one day was able to extend the expiration date of my inks. As far as I can telll the date was not changed because the machine shows the current date. Recently myself business has really slowed down, thanks to economic reasons, and I find myself having to replace expiring inks that are still 1/2 to 3/4 full in some cases. Does anyone have a clue how to access whatever mode it takes to adjust the expiration timing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The tech most likely just accepted the 2 month expiration date extension prompt. Mimakis will give you 2 extra months until they completely stop you from using them. The only way to use expired inks once past the 2 month extension is to trick it by changing the date, requires messing with the main board battery, or getting new chips that are not expired. Mimaki won't sell you chips but there are places around if you search.

I thought about that but whatever he did extended my inks for about 6 months before I had to eventually change them. I am almost positive whatever he did was done from the main interface window on the machine and did not involve the battery or mother board. I appreciate your incite though.

He went to #Adjust and set the date/time in service mode if it was more than 2 months. I've been over the firmware in Ghidra and have found zero mechanism in the service modes for reprogramming dates/capacities on chips. It can be done with external devices, but the chip tends to get invalidated in the process unless you re-hash the chip using its serial number. If you're certain your tech can do that, give 'em a call and pay the rate, worth it for not having to buy a new set of inks. =P
