A graveyard of printers buildiing up...HELP!!!

Firstly I want to thank the team who started this forum. It is very useful.

I have a few printers that I have here that have different problems.
1. Mutoh PJ 3346NX - When i switch on the printer and it starts initialization it stops about 15cm and displays the following message SYSTEM ERROR E075 CR OVERCURRENT

2. Mutoh Valuejet 1304 - After changing the print head and running the nozzle check, it only displays CYAN & BLACK. YELLOW & MAGENTA are blank. I changed the head and tested it on another 1304 that we have and it worked fine. What could be the cause?

3. Mutoh Valuejet 1204 - When you switch on the printer it displays the error message E068 PF-ENCODER

I need help guys otherwise I might end up having a graveyard of printers by the end of the year.

#1..E075 - Head Cable - Abnormal condition in head cable or head thermistor.
#2.. since the head works on another machine then that says something else before the head is bad.. I would check the ribbon cable going to the head.

#3 encoder.. E068 - CR encoder - Abnormal condition in head travel distance (Y-axis) This is related to a servo motor. A servo motor uses an encoder to tell the machine where it is and what it is doing. I am guessing but check / clean the encoder strip. Or clean the rail the head rides on. IT may be sticky and causing the head to be dragging.

Let me try

Thanks Techman. Let me try it out and see what I can do. But its a desperate situation.

No Change. Desparate!!!!!!!!!!

I cleaned the rails and the encoder for the Mutoh PJ3346NX but still no change. The following message appears: SYSTEM ERROR E075 CR Over Current Detail 0000

Generally when diagnosing an older machine, you get a trial and error type of diagnostics.

You started with the encoder strip...
You cleaned it well? allow the alcohol to dry and its still an issue.
Is there damage to it
It may need to be replaced if there was a heavy buildup
But first...
Check carriage cable connections.
Ribbons to the head.
inspect them well, are there any bends or creases
Carefully pull them out straight and see if there is corrosion or ink/dust interfering with the connection.

DO you know your way around the diagnostics of the machine?
You can test the encoder on the menu if you boot up in the diagnostic menu.

You can buy new T fence (encoder) carriage cables and still not solve the issue.
Could be the motor...then replace that and still have an error.
You could have a problem with the CR board, and replace it to find out it is the main board....

When it gets to this point on an older machine that you can not pinpoint the diagnostics... it may be time to trade it in.

travels 15 cm then throws an error??

I just reread the original issue...if it travels 15cm prior to the error...you are probably missing teeth on the CR motor belt.
When it gets tot eh missing teeth, the motor torgues that little bit to trigger the er.

Open the machine up and you will find it on the right side.
There is a trick to replacing them, If you have to loosen the steel belt to put the new one on, you may need a tension guage to retighten it.

wait until you have the new CR motor belt before loosening. dont allow it to sit long loosened.
I have a marked phillips head and count the revolutions to loosen it, and retighten it exactly the same after putting the belt on keeping equal pressure and not skewing it.
You can still move it up and down after tightening it (while moving carriage back and forth).

Mutoh Valuejet 1204

PF encoder is not the same as the CR encoder...
Open the left side, Looks like a clear plastic CD on the left side of the roller
Carefully lean it well with alcohol on a lintfree cloth
