Acrylic bowing like mad

OK, so I have this lightbox with thin perspex bowing all over because it hasn't got any reinforcements/anything at the joints between the sheets. This makes me wonder how you guys usually make the joints for the sheets, I just glue some wider (transparent) lexan/polycarb strips on the back and it has worked well, I'm thinking of doing the same thing to this sign but wanted to ask how you do it. This particular sign has faces of 3 mm perspex, equals about .11 inch? The face is only 35 inch high though.
I know it should be easier with thicker sheets but...
