The fix I posted from Adobe did work for my win7 install (still working as of today), but I do have a win 10 setup for when it no longer can be resuscitated.
My problem turned out to be simple. A security protocol had gone obsolete for Windows 7 and I downloaded a fix via Windows Update. Then Adobe was able to connect once the owner logged back in.
