I can't figure out what happened but I simply clicked yes to an update of adobe reader and now when I click on a file to open it opens for a split second then shuts.

if you can't figure out why, just go to your accessories, system tools and system restore and just set things back a day or the day before you clicked yes to the update. some times I just give up trying to figure out what went wrong and do that. maybe some of our other members will have another and better way to fix this

Did you do a full reboot after?

If your still having issues with reader. I recommend uninstalling it completely then reinstalling.

You may want to rethink avoiding those updates. Adobe is constantly updating Reader for security reasons. Being the popular format it is, .pdf shows up all over the internet and it might be prudent to have Reader updated to be safe. It may have been Reader that hosed your machine (software can be funky), but I haven't had a lot of trouble with the updates and at least now you have a plan if the problem happens again. There are other .pdf readers available or you may simply uninstall and re-install the software as Adobe Reader is used by the masses and isn't inherently problematic.

the only thing it did was make itself not work. Possibly the install went wrong
