Advertising on the back of your vehicle? Ever tried this?

James Burke

Being a grandpa is more fun than working
Ok...for those of you with your advertising on the back of your vehicle, have you ever paid for the order behind you at your favorite drive thru?

Other than sitting at a stop light, the drive thru is perhaps the only other place you have a captive audience. This would surely be one way to help your message stick in people's minds. I'm pretty sure they would tell their friends about it.

Quit buggin' me
I've done something similar to that but it involved a club, a pole, low lighting & dollar bills, can't remember if I had a sign on me or not.....

I know advertising works on the back of my S-10 window, at the time I hand lettered it I was broke, did it in hopes it might do something while out trying to knock on doors & had no advertising on it as of yet.
By the time I'd finished it was afternoon & I headed out drove 2 miles when a car was hooking like crazy at a red light, getting out & asking what is going on, she said follow me to my store after leaving her store with a deposit check in hand, I was one happy camper.
That job & owner sold me 3 more stores just off that one job & her as customer for 10 years.

As far as paying forward in a drive thru, my income is to low to be so generous, but that may change because people want hand painted advertising alot more these days & are open to having a hand painted advertising a great deal more in the last 20 years not enough to to keep me busy everyday but that is improving.

In fact I am getting work from mega companies again & also special types of advertising again & it's been a good 20 years since that has happen on a regular basis, people see that print & cut vinyl just does not always have a warm inviting image that brings cash & customers.

Have perf on the back window of my truck and have gotten several jobs from it. More than once I've been driving down the road and people will suddenly start tailgating me then drive up beside to tell me they are calling. Most recent was on the interstate, some guy behind me called the shop number gave the shop hic mobile number and asked the shop to call me and to give me his number. Called him, stopped at the next exit, talked for 15 minutes and sold him on a full wrap for a van for his mobile service trailer.

Sometimes I'm a hot rod, and I get hacked off, and or make a mistake while driving...I've never done the vehicle graphic game, but I've never had to advertise either, so that's probably why. When I need more work, it may be something I do. There's a guy in town that ALWAYS started a conversation with "Hi I'm ________, I own my own sign shop" and I guess I got so sick of his self promotion, that I'm kind of skiddish to promote myself. I know, weird, but just don't like the giant ego attitude. I'd rather put out great products, and just be known by word of mouth as long as it will work for me. So far, we've been around 35 years and very low advertising.

All that being said, I never want employees, so I'm not trying to grow to some mega company.

Before I had to euthanize our shop dog Daisy, I snapped a pic of her looking out the back window on my truck. I made a decal of her from that pic and stuck it on the window. It gets a lot of attention. Everyone thinks she is the most well behaved dog. :)
