Advice printing 4 color black on Mutoh 1624?

I'm trying to print a 6 foot long piece with a 4 color black background, but keep getting streaks in the black. I managed to get one decent print, but have burned 18 feet of IJ 35-C in the process and still need another print. The magenta and black inks were both low, but I don't think that has anything to do with it. The streaks aren't head strikes, more like banding with lighter black, but in random sections of the print, different places on each attempt. The profile I am using is Avery 3100 190 quality 2 graphics 2, and it works quite well on smaller prints using four color black. Any advice? The installation is on Friday morning. If anyone knows the exact print profile I should be using, I would be eternally grateful. The print software is SAi FlexiPrint. If I can't get this to work, I am going to try it on the 1604.

Best advice I can give is to print using a higher pass count than you have been using to this point. The Epson DX4 and 5 heads are prone to this type of 'white banding' which appears similar to random drop-outs for several passes. When it occurs, it is almost always visible in in solid colors only. It may also be induced by dampers which are not able to keep up with the ink flow in the ink train.

Raising the pass count does not exactly solve the issue, but does hide it much better than lower pass counts.

What is your build for black? Too much ink can cause drop outs in channels, ink man not dry...build your black with 100k, 30m, 30c, and 30y

Thanks. I'll print a swatch from your recipe. It was an attempt to match the powder coated shiny-*** black from the client's trailer, or as close as possible. I'll figure it out. I do know it's possible, but Mutoh is bumming me out.

i know exactly what's going on, I get those streaks whenever I print anything under 720x720. don't use the Avery profile I get it with that profile as well, instead use oracle 3691 (or 36xx can't remember the last two numbers) and use the print profile that is 720x720. give that a shot and see how it goes.

ps print small black boxes before the big one to make sure it prints correctly
