After Market plug and play Inks

I just got off the phone with Fellers about thier Bordeaux Inks. The yahve a PRIME ink that you should be able to use in conjuntion with your eco-col MAX inks. The guy that I talked to didnt have any answers. What I am looking for is this.

1. Because they require no new profiling, do they print exactly the same color(I think we all have at least 1 customer that is beyond picky about a color of a project)

2. Do they offer better protection then the OEM inks? I know that Triangle totes that thier inks can be rubbed with alcohol and it wont come off.

3. Heat settings, if they are the "same" as OEM inks, then all the heat settings should be the same for the materials that I am using now.

I will be contacting Bordeaux sometime today to hopefully get these answers, I figured I would share my experiance with everyone.

Anyone else switched to these? Want to share thier feelings on them?

Ok, I couldn't wait....I called but got an answering machine (what supplier uses an answering machine anymore?) with a man with a really heavy accent. Its not swaying me from looking into it later, just passing on the info :)

Aren't the Roland MAX inks impervious to alcohol? I know that the original inks were not, which is one main reason why I went with Triangle right out of the gate. I did a test early on with several chemicals...70% IPA, Denatured Alcohol, Carb cleaner and something else, I forget what. Even with very strong rubbing, IPA didn't take it off. DA did start to remove the ink, but only after quite a bit of rubbing. Of course, carb cleaner took it off almost immediately. Still, was pretty impressed that alcohol didn't for the most part.

I thought Rolands ECO SOL MAX inks can be taken off with rubbing alcohol...pretty sure I tried it on a dry (for 2 days) unlaminated print when I got my printer and it came off with not too much work.

I could be wrong though, but pretty sure.

Yup, it can. Sorry, its one of the things that Triangle says thats a step above Roland Inks. I am wondering if This other brand makes that same claim, or what they mean by "High print density · Extremely wide color gamut · Quick drying with excellent substrate adhesion · Superior scratch resistance"

I just tested it again just now.....using the Eco Sol Max inks printed off my roland, and it whipes off after just a few passes.

I would have gone with Triangle Inks however from what I understand the system needs a total flush, and we already went through that when we first got the printer, dealing with another 3rd party inkset (cant remember the name). This seems like a pretty good deal, if in fact it works as good as they claim.

Update: I also have a call into the sales management team over at Fellers for some info on it as well....the sales people can't answer those questions.

Got a call yesterday from Wade at Fellers. He said they can't promise that the colors will be right on, but he is confident that the change would be very minor. Also said that the profiles and the heat settings should be the same.

He didn't have an answer for the alcohol test. He said that he was going to try it and let me know.

I also recieved a call yesterday after my shop closed from Arez from Bordeaux inks. He said that he would give me a call back sometime today to talk over the inks.

Thought of another question - Lifespan - If they warentee the inks for as long as Roland does (I think that there is a 3 year on the Eco Sol MAX inks).

If anyone else can think of something I should ask them, please let me know!

One thing you may want to consider is finding out if your inks are warrantied from the material manufacturers such as 3M, Avery, and Oracal. If you plan on doing vehicle wraps and a print fails, if they find out you are using a 3rd party inkset that is not covered you are on your own and they will not issue any credit. I have seen this come back to bite many people so it might be worth looking into.

Alright, Just got off the phone with the guy over at Bordeaux.

1. agrees with what Fellers said about not being exactly the same colors bu will be REALLY close.

2. He admits that Triangle may have better protection, and he thinks that his brand will have the same as the OEM inks. He said that he thinks that the triangle inks are not full eco-solvent inks.

3. Heat settings should be the same.

4. Lifetime- He said that because of my location I should expect the same lifespan of the inks as I do with the OEM inks. He said that with places like Florida and Arizona its closer to 2 years. Gave me some reason of being closer to the equator and sun exposure.

5. Warantee- He said that they have no agreement with any manufactures for the adheasion of the ink.

Based on all that I am reading...I think that we are probubly going to stick with the OEM inks.

Any thoughts?
