Aggressive Adhesive needed

Morning All,

I need to put some small graphics on a bunch of trash receptacles. I initially tried 3M IJ40 but it did not stick well. I then tried the 3M IJ380 That stuff does not stick well either. Plus its 3 times more expensive. I thought of trying some adhesive primer but that is another whole process (added labor). Plus if I have to wait for the primer to "tack up" that doubles my install time as there are over 100 of these cans on this property (x4, one on each side). So primer is out of the question.

The cans have texture to them. The only way I can describe is, its like the plastic parts on a Honda Element. I know. That is the part you are NOT supposed to wrap or put graphics on. But I removed graphics from the cans to begin with so I know something exists that WILL stick.

So I wondered if any one has a recommendation for a solvent printable adhesive back vinyl with with a really aggressive adhesive that will grab and stick really well to a textured plastic surface, outdoors, in the sun.

Thanks in advance!

Sand it. It always amazes me how people expect the material they work with to compensate for proper preparation.

MrSalumi,

That thought crossed my mind also. But as I mentioned, the original graphics stuck no problem. This with out sanding. And I think my, or any client, would be a bit put off if I scuff the hell out of 100 or so of their units. When it wasn't needed before. Plus there is not enough money in this job for me replace the cans after this event...

Does anyone know of a place that digital prints on the Arlon 8000 or the Convex Hi-Bond that we can sub out to? We have a job possibly coming up that would require decals applied to plastic porta-potties and bonding is also an issue.

any one of the hi-tac vinyls should work but if they don't ... we had a similar job we did for some trach cans in NYC. we silk screened on polycarbonate (could be UV'd also) and you need to use 3M 9471 or 9472 both adhesives are for low surface energy plastics and textured surfaces, mount it to the polycarbonate and you are good to go

Arlon 8000 is a material we stock plenty of and would be glad to help you with. Give Shaila, Harley, Bryan or Matt a call at Visible Marketing 801-483-9465 or sales@vmutah.com

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the tips guys.
So in the end, we went the primer route. After doing the math the cost of a roll of convex or arlon was more than the man-hour in this case.

So we used one of our new guys to get a head start. First flame treating the faces (thanks jhilldesigns) and then hitting it up with some primer.

Ended up working just fine and not boosting the cost of the project to much.

Thanks everyone for your input.
