put way too much masking tape to secure their rolls of vinyl?

And then it's wound tight enough that there's always a crease in the vinyl that makes you have to throw out the first 18".

I've always thought that.

Ya know, if they'd use a tail like so many other items have and just wind it in about a foot or so, nothing would be lost.

Film and the laminate is the same, first 18" toast.... This is also true for the end of the roll too.

You mean the 15 tabs of 1/4" tape? Yeah I agree. I just run a knife across them, first few feet of new rolls are garbage anyways.

+1. Advance it past where the knife cut it loose, and then you can print past there.

I typically advance all new material out that far, simply because I don't know where the manufacturing hands' touched it last.

Exactly, the first part of the roll has been handled and finger printed, small dings, etc. Best to discard the outer part, I would bet, Oracal gives you that 18" for FREE, although I have never actually measured the 50 yd roll, I assume they give you a little extra.

Whenever I purchase roll good by the foot or yard, I am always given a little extra...
