Anonymity and Signs101 ...

It has come to my attention that some people here feel that anonymity is expected when posting on these (or any) online forums. They think it's their "right".

I'm here to tell you that privacy online is NOT your right or expectation. You are NOT anonymous online...especially if you CHOOSE to post personal information about yourself. If you post your life story on your website or Facebook, or choose to post photos of you customer's signs, you are revealing information on your own choosing.

How can you post stuff on Facebook (real name, business, family information, photos of your vacations) and then expect S101 to be anonymous and feel that it is a right?

Someone here recently said they were fearful of their life because someone posted the name of their town... (That was it...just the name of their town..like "Frisco" or "Los Angeles"). Mind you that person earlier posted pictures of their OWN SIGN for their sign shop online, that anyone can easily Google.

First of all, if you're doing things online that you think would lead to real-life consequences, you might want to re-evaluate your conduct on the internet. I've posted customer photos, revealed my real name, my business name, previous employer and if I have something to say that I don't want public I'll send it privately to people I think I can trust...because even sending things privately can be revealed. Honestly I think whoever claimed to be "fearful" really has some personal issues they themselves need to work out.

This is a sign professional community. We are not a large group... I have some of my customers posting on this site, I've seen fellow local sign shop owners posting, I've found people to sub work out to and met a few of you all in person. You never know when something you say can come back and bite you in the ass, so treat this website like you would if a group of us were all sitting in a coffee shop having a drink....or would you show up to Starbucks with this on your face?

People are crazy, you never know what mild thing you say can set someone into some irrational frenzy for revenge. I like to joke but have to limit it to the few I know wont get all twisted over it and hunt me down.
I dont care who here knows me but id prefer to remain anonymous for customers that come across this. It looks unprofessional to to me to ask pointers on how to do a job they gave you or even worse, how to price it.

I'm not advocating that people reveal personal information about themselves. I don't parade around my info or any others personal info...

The point of this thread is this... Once you post stuff, it's out there forever and for everyone to access. You can't complain about "the presumption of anonymity" when you choose to put your info online.

We should be more cognizant of our behavior and treat each other AS IF we were all in the same room...cause you never know who will find this stuff later on...

Id still make fun of your crooked signs if you were in the same room if thats what you’re saying. Dont measure from drop ceilings or sloped ground - pro tip there, the bills in the mail.

Love all those shows, but honestly haven't watched any of them in the past 3 or 4 years. When my 6 year old was starting to talk, we had to stop watching family guy. We used to watch it with her all the time when she was babbling, but at some point we wised up and stopped. Now the really funny part is if the family guy theme song starts, she'll run into the living room to see that it's on, then inevitably I hear "Mom! Dad's watching Family Guy!" in the most tattling voice you can imagine. But Bob's is so PG it is fine if the kids wander in.
I still find time for my Rick and Morty, even though I can see that one melting my kids brains if they saw some of that sh!t.

100% understand...mine is 7 and around 2 or 3 my wife banned those shows...now I have to hide in my room at night and watch what I want on my computer like its porn.

i like watching stand-up and 99% of that I can't watch either... except Jim Gaffigan. Another show that's family friendly (sort of) is Impratical Jokers.

Impractical Jokers is about the dumbest thing I've ever seen..... and then it's made bigger by televising it. These 4 knuckleheads get away with sh!t, that most people would punch their faces in for doing. Stupidity at its finest..... or lowest.

If you watch it long enough, you pick up on the personality of the 4 guys... and once you understand them the situations become hilarious not because of what they are doing on its face.

I cannot watch something like that for more than about 3 minutes. That is a total waste of time, not to mention gross wear 'n tear on my eyes.

If that's entertainment, then you are as sick as them, cause that sh!t ain't funny. It's sad. But then, you believe it, so I guess it's alright.

No way, that's some funny stuff. Nothing wrong with a little twisted humor.
