The clear is great at bonding metal. The only caveat is the surfaces should both be relatively flat/smooth due to how thin the tape is. It's not as forgiving as the thicker foam tape.
It's a pretty big chore to separate two flat pieces that are adhered with the clear VHB tape. The stuff is extremely strong. So if the pieces you're attaching are flat, and you have a ton of the clear like you said, I would use it.
4941 works on a variety of materials and is also extremely strong.
