Hey all,

Looking for some help from people who know what they are doing in the design world. Have a trailer wrap need to be designed, I have the files from the last wrap and just need things redone and sized correctly to print. Need someone efficient and knowledgeable.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Vehicle Wrap designers?
All you do it pick a background from google images, throw your name on top of it and a bullet point list of everything you do and hit print. That or scan the customers business card that their nephew designed for them 3 years ago in high school.
(customers suggestions...not actual advice)

I would love for you to show me where 99designs is a free service??

If you're comfortable with those designers not chosen, effectively working for nothing? If you wouldn't work for free, you shouldn't expect designers to either.

By virtue of it being a 'contest', after you've picked the winner, all the other designers who have entered the contest have essentially worked for free. You may not use their design, but they still had to do the work.

And this effects the OP negatively how? For a graphic designer that is new or who doesn't have a lot of confidence in their abilities, then using the 99design platform might not be the best choice to get work. For someone needing a designer/design, this option can be a great resource.

Then we'll agree to disagree - I just don't think it is a good model for an industry already struggling to get what it's worth.

While I hate 99designs and crowd-sourcing artwork I could possibly see how there is a market for that from the purchasers' prospective. And with bad economies around the world people will do anything to compete to make a few bucks. I have had a few customers decide not to pay me for logo design and go that route for their logo design, and then bring that (normally junky art) back to use in their wraps/graphics.

HOWEVER, I don't think there is any way that ANYONE would ever even think of trying to use that sort of route for a wrap design. Bad things would happen, if you've ever been a wrap designer you would know that and this wouldn't even be a discussion. A wrap designer has to have experience installing, using templates, transitioning around planes, etc, etc that a member at a crowd sourcing site doesn't have.

What model/resource do you recommend then for someone that's new to the industry, and needs to outsource the graphic design portion of their vehicle wrap business?

I fully agree that a wrap designer should have hands on experience doing installs! Also, I believe that you get what you pay for(99.999% of the time). For example, I have used the marketplace Fiverr, where in which I bought a gig for a logo design. It proved unsuccessful for me, however, a couple years ago, I bought a Resume/Cover-letter gig that was extremely effective and always gets me compliments!

I think the reason why you think crowdsourcing is great is...
your job can not be, or is not crowdsourced.

This reasoning reeks of ignorance...
"For a graphic designer that is new or who doesn't have a lot of confidence in their abilities"

Newbie and insecure designers should not be playing with peoples livelihood, thats what entry level jobs and therapy is for.

Fact is, most are designers from third world countries where 300 bucks is a months wage.

A lot of the work is poor...

Quite a bit is stolen...

Most designers and clients are trying to copy another designer... and crapy at that.

The real deal:

The crap:

I don't see this as a great deal for the OP... tons or crap choices with an occasional gem.

The only people making money is the site itself.

Don't ***** about people undercutting you, taking your designs or paying immigrant workers... if you use crowdsourcing, you are no better.

NOW... If I was a designer in a third world country, heck yeah I'd work for free for the chance to make a months wage.
If I was a designer stuck at home with no means to get work, like say a stay at home mom or dad... yeah, I can see that.
But don't start spouting off that this is the new standard for stelar work. It's not a great resource... it's the cheap/and on most occasion crappy choice, much like most hack sign shops who cut corners.

Booger flick on you, you fuffeehead!

What reeks of ignorance is your comments and lack of professionalism. I never stated that crowdsourcing is great. And I would love for you to tell me what my job is??

You sound like a very bitter person for whatever reason, and have decided to take it out on me. If this is how you conduct your business, then I can understand why people might choose to take their's somewhere else.

So I take it that everything you buy is made in the US? Is the computer or phone that you are using to post on this forum made in the US? You have put a lot of words in my mouth in this post. Where did I start "spouting off that this is the new standard for stelar work"??
You obviously don't understand the importance of reputation, especially in this day and age. Saying that most sign shops are hacks and cut corners is prejudging and insulting to the many sign shop owners that are members of this forum.

Coastguy,
I think you have Rick pegged all wrong.
He does not need me to defend him but you might want to do a quick search of this list for some of his replies.
He is one of the more helpful, talented, stable guys posting here (disregarding that sock monkey onesie fetish of his)
