Any worth to a Mutoh VJ 1204A that's been unplugged

since November?

A local sign guy passed away. Somehow one of my customers came into possession of his printer. He thinks it's worth $5k. I think it's worth $100.

Thoughts?

If it is unplugged and out of ink show them the cost of the parts that HAVE to be replaced...

Print Head.
Head Cable
Dampers
Maintenance Station
And a full set of inks.

Then tell them the longer it sits the more damage it does.

It's definitley worth more than a $100 as that is greedy and unrealistic.
I reckon it would be expensive at 5K if it was working.
Probably a fair price is closer $500 that is if it powers up!

Who's paying $3,000 for a printhead?? A DX4 head can be had for $900.

I though the OP was asking how much in its current condition, not repaired.

This printer uses a DX5 head and they are pricy. For $100 or less you can buy a used, working, old Epson desktop printer that has an unlocked DX5 head and use it. Just be sure to re-use the solvent resistant manifold and gasket and don't use the manifold from the desktop printer. Instead of a new maintenance station, you can buy a new pump and new cap top and a new wiper.

Sorry, I meant DX5 head not DX4. This is a great point. Only problem is, if the printer is new it will only print the original 13" wide. This can be overcome with an unlocking card.
