On a weekly basis there are times when it's a little slower in the shop and only enough work for the shop help. Basically the boss gets antsy and starts to hover over our shoulders. I end up giving my boss busy work knowing that it will cause me more work which I don't mind ... but every once in a while I realize I'm doing this and I have to ask if anyone else keeps their superiors busy by giving them idle work so you can concentrate on the task at hand?
