That 1/2 is pretty small,I guess back then you did not use .5 yet since most people only went to 8th grade, how do you break a penny down if you only wanted a gal.
16.5x6=99cents, they are doing the math for you, pocket calculators were not made yet.

Reminds me of my old neighbors. Father and Son were sign painters,
They would set the type and use overhead projector to the sign Boards
and go at it by hand. which is probably how these signs were made.

A strange twist of fate that I became a sign maker too.
