Yes, part three.
Last summer I did four banners and 50 yard signs for a customer. I quoted the job, she loved the price and the layouts, she paid for the job and we went to work. Somewhere along the way it dawned on me that the price just didn't seem right. Turns out I'd quoted her the exact wholesale price I was paying for the signs from my subcontractor people, I'd forgotten to mark them up. I went ahead and honored my quote figuring I was at least breaking even on my mistake and since I was subbing out the work it wasn't going to be that bad. When she picked up her order she mentioned doing the same thing this summer so I told her about the quote not being right just so she'd be prepared for a higher price this year.
Forward to today. She sent over her quote request Tuesday night, I sent her the quote around noon. She called this morning to find out why I'd added the money I didn't charge her last year to the order this year. I laughed and told her I didn't, I just quoted her from our basic price list. As the conversation went on she got more and more pissed off that my price was more than double what it was last year and that they weren't budgeted for that. I apologized and told her that the price I quoted was correct and she told me she was going to go soemwhere else.
Ten minutes ago I got a phone call from "her lawyer" who conveniently enough has the same caller id listing as the pissed off lady. She very snottily began to toss out words like misrepresentation, fraud, deceitful business practices, and malignancy (you figure that one out). She went on to explain to me that unless I was willing to match LAST YEAR'S QUOTE they would have to report me to the BBB and would consider legal action.
I started to argue with her about prices changing, about warning the lady the year before, and about her not being out anything since she hadn't placed and order or made a deposit but I figured there was no point, I wasn't going to change her mind.
I'm anxiously awaiting my subpoena now! I'm telling you, this town is getting crazier by the minute.
