background pattern generator

does anyone know of a software designed to make seamless patterns out of a piece of your original art? something above Adobe pattern fills, but not as costly as SymmetryShop or SymmetryWorks plug-ins?

I use both Genetica and Filter Forge. Each is priced lower than SymmetryShop in their basic versions.

I would also recommend Filter Forge.
Thay have a new version out just now (V. 3).

Actually I'm more of a fan of Genetica at this point. Genetica has a canvas feature, can be used to work with vectors and can edit multiple imported images into a seamless tile, has some really nice features to help overcome the tendency of a rendering to look repetitive. It also handles its renderings of larger files in a fraction of the time Filter Forge takes.
