basic Illustrator CS5 question

I am new to Illustrator. I know the basics, but learned in and use Gerber software.

So, my question:

Som artwork I am working with has fills and strokes. When I shrink or enlarge it, the strokes do not change proportionately. They stay the same thickness. How do I change the size of the artwork, and have the strokes change with it?

Edit>Preferences>General

Check box to Scale Strokes and Effects

That's how it's done in CS3

Or if your file is done and you just need to resize it, you can "expand" the stroke.

thanks to you both. it can be a lot to look at when you dont know what your looking for
