Just got a phone call I had to share. About 6-7 years ago we made a bunch of signs for the city, they put them on fire hydrants when they are out of service to let the fire dept. know the hydrant doesn't work. Along the bottom in tiny text we have "to reorder please call watsons engraving & signage" and our phone #.

Some guy just calls here completely irate, demanding to know when the hydrant near his house would be fixed, it's been a while since we made these and I forgot we even did them, so i was completely confused for the first minute of the phone call. he was going on about how if his house burns down he will be holding me personally responsible blah, blah, blah.

It finally clicks what he is talking about and i have to cut him off to get a word in edge wise, tell him we just made the sign, we have nothing to do with fixing the hydrants, tell him he has to call the city.

So be careful what you put your name on, you never know who might find it...

I'm sorry sir, but we don't have your house scheduled for burning until tomorrow, you'll have to wait like all your neighbors.

I love installing signs on not-yet open businesses. We ALWAYS get questions like its our business. No, I don't know when they are opening, No, I do not know if they are hiring, No, No, No to all of your questions. I'm just the sign girl, I don't know anything.

We letter a pretty fair amount of local semis; we put a small “Jeff’s” on most of them. One of the truckers told me he had a conversation with a scale house guy one day.

Guy; “Man that Jeff guy must own a lot of trucks”

Trucker; (confused) “What?”

Guy (points at the ¼” tall Jeff’s on the truck by the large company name) “That Jeff guy must own a lot of trucks; I see his name on a ton of trucks that come thru here.”

Trucker laughs and says “he doesn’t own them he letters all of them.”

Guy “Oh”
