Here’s a funny one for ya. At least it makes me laugh after all the money I’ve spent for nothing.

At our shop, we have a doctor’s office directly next door. They are our tenants. Since they moved in 4 years ago, they’ve always complained about not enough air conditioning…. among lots other things.

Anyway, when Tuesday’s late afternoon complaint came in….. the Goddess finally said, we’re getting our own repairman in there and find out what’s really wrong. He showed up this morning and found a bad fan motor, so he bypassed it and hot-wired it to run continuously until he can get the parts in to fix it. While he was working on it, he found all kinds of gadgets and quick-fix methods used by some of the repairmen our tenant have gotten. Anyway, he said, he’ll be back around lunch to see how things are going. We went down to the furnace and everything was working fantastic…. for as fantastic as a unit can work. He said, let’s go up stairs and see if they’re freezing their butts off yet.

Got up there and it was just below sweltering as soon as we walked in. We looked at each other and I turned around and both vents were 100% closed. Went into the waiting room and one vent was closed and the other almost closed. Went into the next room and the vent had a desk sitting on it completely covering the vent. Moved the vent and it too was closed. Next room exactly the same. Next exam room had a computer and battery backup sitting directly on top of it. Last room was closed almost all the way. We both opened them all and cleared the stuff away and told them to stop blocking the airflow.

I called the doctor on the phone and he said, they had all been opened the day before. I said, but I personally opened them. He denied it all, but I now know what was causing this unit to constantly freeze up…. their carelessness.

I can’t tell you how many of his repairmen said the unit was old and worthless and he needed to have us put a new system in. How can people do this all the time…. and more so… how can he keep findings thugs trying to make an easy buck ??

And it always happens on 94 degree days.

That's sad on several levels. That so many repairmen were so willing to capitalize on the mistake and the doctor for not owning up to it. Or recognizing that the vents actually serve a purpose. You should raise their rent to cover the repairs costs.:thumb:

Iused to go to a women's work out center and they wouldn't set the AC below 72 because they said it would freeze up. they hung wind do dads from the vents and they never moved which we kept telling them was a sign that something was really wrong. finally, they called an AC repair guy in. turns out some pinhead blocked off all the vents by stuffing insulation into the duct work. I don't think that AC's go bad, I think people are doing some really stupid stuff so they don't work.

Marlene they do go bad! You can get leaks in them and some of the older ones were made of steel and rust away! But most times it is either a tech that can not trouble shoot or the owner wants to make money on new units!

I know that but it sounds like there are a lot of people doing stuff to them too

I'm gonna put a metal screw in his head and call it a frickin' lobotomy. After all, he's a neurologist specialist. What a pin head.

Some of them are not too bright. I had one that could not wrap his mind around the difference between a sandblasted 3D sign and a flat sign (he wanted to put a vinyl sign on a sandblasted directory) and didn't see the big deal.

I guess he did discount brain surgery?
