Best font for directional signs?

I am always unsure of a good font to use on directional signs such as 12 x 18 no parking signs, fire route, etc. In the past I have used impact and transport heavy but neither of these really look good to me so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a really good font choice for these.

For "real" signs (like on the highway) I use Blue Highway.
For parking lot signs I typically use Impact or Arroyo, unless it's a more high-end parking lot.
I also use Chesham Sans wayyy too much but it's such a clear, clean looking alphabet.
