Best host and registrar?

before this question can be answered correctly you need to disclose what you are hosting framework/development side. Some hosting companies are better than others and i didnt see this asked or disclosed.

As for the registrar ... registrars are registrars ... find one you like and is prices affordably.

As for hosts, I found that hostgator.com and sitevalley.com are great. I'm currently using sitevalley and they have no content restriction and have excellent mysql support. Also only had my site down for 22 minutes once a few years back when they switched servers ... rest of the time 99.9% uptime ... goal on that.

Hover or Godaddy for domain registration.
If you have the money- Media Temple http://mediatemple.net/ for hosting. I have my own upgraded server, close to 200$ month where I host my clients websites for a monthly fee. As my client hosting grows, I upgrade the server. You can't beat the service. Also, look at the clients they host -Media Temple is the premier hosting company in the US.

Mediatemple.net is where it's at. More expensive than a lot of other hosting companies out there but by all accounts that I've heard they are totally worth it. I haven't personally used them myself, but like I said, I have yet to hear a bad word about them. I use netfirms.com myself, and I've had a good experience with them so far (been about 4 years now), I would definetely recommend them.
My girlfriends dad got his site hosted on GoDaddy, and he was very unimpressed with them, especially from the customer service. He ended up switching his site over to netfirms after about 6 months.

I've done a lot of research into this, have many domains registered, and host many sites. In my opinion, Go Daddy sucks! I use dynadot.com. They're quite good. For hosting, hostgator can't be beat. Great customer support, cheap, zero issues..

I just switched 4 of my domains to HostGator after some of my sites with free website

Go Daddy for registrar.

HostGator or BlueHost for hosting.

Agreed.

Godaddy is $7.50 a year as registrar.

I just switched 4 of my domains to HostGator after some of my sites with free websies at godaddy kept going down, and godaddy always acts like it's my fault. Customer service at hostgator has been great so far.

Here is one at each:

http://weekenddirectionals.com is at host gator

http://pennjerseysigns.com is at godaddy.

I built them with their your do it yourself templates.

GoDaddy! Number one in my opinion and I've registered too many domains over the years.

I use HostGator for quick hosting, works great!

Just host it yourself!

Simple windows solution-- setup for hosting one site, but able to host many with a few modifications.

More complex, but still relatively simple for hosting 1 - many sites:

Hahahahahaha.
If i hosted my own sites.. I'd need a room of computers and a firehouse of data cables running into it to support the bandwidth.

If you plan on doing ANYTHING with your website and getting up in search engines. Don't host yourself. You will crash your system.

do this to learn, but really... you need blended carriers and dual+ power plus redundant UPS/generator to have high-availability.

if you really want to learn... set up a centos/debian box as a LAMP server :)

I'm sure hosting it yourself would work for some people, but that's just not what I want to do with my time. Anything that keeps my blood pressure lower and costs under $50 a month is well worth it.

Not to mention there isn't anyone to call when I don't know what the heck I'm doing! :banghead:

Also, as a side note... a little birdie told me that a sign shop specific webhost was about to become a merchant member.

-1 x 20 First off getting your DNS to adjust to a non-static IP address will cause a 50% downtime of your site. Second ... why? There are plenty of free servers out there that have 90% uptime and will let you host one domain let alone there are a ton of $4-$15 per month hosts that will let you pretty much anything you need.

Time to get a static IP then! Hosting yourself isn't for everyone, but it certainly is a viable option for many. It's really not as hard or complicated as people make it out to be.

Godaddy was sold to an invester group a few months back. Bob Parsons is no longer in control. I have several domains and hosting accounts with them but will keep an eye on them. Glad to hear the positve input for hostgator. Just signed on with them tonight for a site that was ddos'ed on another host that couldn't deal with it.

we'll be up and running this week, negotiating registrar rates.

fully-owned equipment from the sonicwalls all the way down to the IBM bladecenters/blades, purpose-built for security and stability. we're running low-load hosting (read- not slow and beyond oversold like the big guys) in a tier 3 datacenter with 4x redundant 100mbit peers, 2x redundant liebert HVAC, 2x redundant power (city/hospital grid), dual diesel generators, enough APC units to keep downtown lit, optional redundancy in NC/Switzerland and personal support...

The best part? S101 specials. PM for pre-launch details, we'll be posting up some ads shortly.
