Question Best Transfer Tape for Oracal 651?

Hello Everyone,

I currently use RTAPE 4075RLA TRANSFER TAPE - HIGH TACK for my transfer tape on Oracal 651. I usually have a few issues with the transfer tape not pulling the vinyl from the backing paper, but I am usually smart enough to work around it and manipulate the window cling to have it peel off correctly. My customers however are not smart enough and do not have the experience with the clings I make and almost always have issues with the transfer tape not pulling the vinyl from the backing paper.

What does everyone use/recommend for transfer tape when using Oracal 651? I want to give my customers an easy and hassle-free application with transfer tape.

Also on this note, when cutting the stickers, clings, decals, etc. out, how does everyone make a nice and level cut to send out to customers? I currently just use scissors to cut out my clings, but they are never level and don't have anything to line up with and the customer just has to eyeball it when applying the sticker to make sure it is straight.

Any input helps,
Will

Can't answer to the first part, but on this note, 2mm weed border, and then cut the package with steel rule, and Sharp blade of choice, leaving 2mm of laminate all round. Makes measuring simple, and only costs a couple of seconds over using snips. Also looks good.

I use a ruler and cut the mask and backing paper to a square. Are the customers aware they should place the decal face down and peel off the backing paper with it facing upwards? As long as the RLA 4075 has been squeegeed hard or applied with a laminator, the app tape should be sticking to the decal fairly well.

When you say "cling", you mean decal right? (Given the fact that 651 is vinyl)

How are you applying the premask? Are you using a hard (teflon or similar) squeegee with firm pressure to apply it to your decals?

Assuming that you're not cutting your decals too deep/scoring the liner, any premask should be able to lift 651 with ease.

For trimming decals, we use a combination of straight edges, safety rulers and guillotine cutters. We don't use scissors to trim decals here.

One premium app tape is as good as any other. Note that as stated above, you pull the backing off the mask, not the mask off the backing. To cut out your product either print or cut, depending, small reg marks at the top/bottom or left/right of each column or row to be cut. Then cut from reg mark to reg mark, not to the edges of the sheet. Do this properly and you will part an entire sheet in the number of rows plus the number of columns plus two cuts.

I agree with Bob..... I use a transfer tape, applied by hand or a laminator, but in the file, I design a mark on the left and right, I place it at the very edge of the image, small arrow or so, about .25", that is my mark when the image is not straight, after the mask or transfer tape, I draw a line from those marks, when installing, that will be my guide to lever the decal.

It's been my experience that when the tape doesn't come off the backer properly, it's time to change the blade. Many times as the blade gets older and you put more down pressure on the blade, the knife tends to cut into the backer a bit and makes the vinyl somewhat adhere itself to the edges preventing a clean pulling off effect.
