Black out vinyl for light box?

Hi eveyrone. I had a customer ask me to look at there job and what they have are is large light box with there name cut out of vinyl. I was thinking regular translucent vinyl but i drove by at night and noticed that there is no light coming through the vinyl only the parts with the letters cut out. The vinyl is black in color. From all my experiences there is always a little bit of light coming through the translucent vinyl. Thats why its call translucent but wasn't sure if there was vinyl that can take the heat from the lights and not let any light through it. I hope that makes sence and thanks for the help!

whoever made the sign used regular vinyl instead of trans vinyl...happens a lot around here, especially with black vinyl...."it's black, so it's not gonna let light through anyway" is the excuse most often used....trans vinyl should always be used if going on a box...

We have been forced by the city to use blockout vinyl on most of our newer backlit jobs - I put a layer of the blockout, then a layer of the translucent...(for sheen...if I wanted it glossy, I would use reg. vinyl over it)
