Black Print Head Issue

Hey guys i have a roland rs-640 and have just encountered a problem with the black print. It was working fine and had just printed 7 metres of vinyl with the logo having a background of cmyk black at 90% giving a dark grey background. It got 75% through the last print and just dropped out. Been going through everything trying to work out the proble. Ive manually cleaned, normal/powerful cleaned, ive soaked the head. I came to the conclusion the head was gone so i thought i would soak a swab in cleaning fluid and clean the head surface- nothing to lose if its stuffed. Test print was perfect. Started printing again then the same thing happened. Same procedure got the test print perfect and then it again dropped out. Has anyone got any ideas? I would check out your cartridge- you may be out of ink. If it is not that, then I would say it's time to change the damper. It's filter screen is clogged. Change it with a Roland damper.
Be careful not to crack or break the tube that the damper fits over.

That is subjective... It is EASY to crack or break the stem or manifold. You have to pull straight up and not twist or bend in any way.

Then remove the damper from the ink line, put the new damper on the ink line.

Now the ink needs to be brought back from the cartridge. You can put the damper on the head, and have the pump draw the ink (along with the other 3 colours), or use a syringe to draw the ink up the line and into the damper, then put the new damper on the head. Then run a cleaning or a pump up and cancel it when you see the ink in the damper bladder. You could pinch off the other head's cap line to try and save some ink...

You have to be very careful not to get ink on the circuits around the head, and not to crack the manifold.

If you don't have it, get the large PDF Service Manual from the web, as well as search for more detailed instructions.

Thanks Robert that would be great! Do you think try the cap top first? I've ordered cap tops, wipers and both dampers for the black print head
