Are you looking for a vector or gradient blend? Mike provided the solution for a gradient blend, but if you were looking to maintain it as a vector... you will need to duplicate your design and change color. The Effects > Blend option will continue to duplicate it in between based on the number of steps designated in design central.
The only unfortunate thing... since it is a duplication process, you will lose your clean edge.
